TOPEKA, Kan. -- Central Missouri Jennies softball split a pair of games on the final day of the Washburn Softball Invitational Sunday, Feb. 27, at Lake Shawnee Softball Complex in Topeka, falling to Missouri-St. Louis, 4-0, and defeating Wayne State (Neb.), 10-2 in six innings.
The Jennies (3-9) are slated to travel to Winter Haven, Fla., for six games March 4-6.
Game 1: Missouri-St. Louis 4, Central Missouri 0
In the 4-0 loss to the Tritons in game one, the Jennies were limited to just three hits, two by
Abbey Fischer and the other by
Peyton Corrigan, and struck out 10 times.
Sadie Parks (1-2) suffered the setback in the circle in the opener for Central Missouri, allowing three earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and one walk in two innings.
Maddie Snemis (5-5) paced UMSL in the batter's box, going 2-for-4.
Annie Scaramuzzi (3-2) posted the victory for Missouri-St. Louis, going the full seven innings and allowing no earned runs on just three hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk.
Game 2: Central Missouri 10, Wayne State (Neb.) 2
In UCM's 10-2 win in the nightcap, the Jennies used a six-run fifth inning and three-run sixth inning to pull away from the Wildcats and post the run-rule triumph.
Abbey Fischer nearly hit for the cycle in the game, going 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs, while
Aubrie McRoberts also went 3-for-4 and scored three runs, pacing Central Missouri at the plate.
Kyleigh Lay (2-2) earned the win in relief for the Jennies after throwing 1 2/3 hitless innings with six Ks and three walks.
Paiton Tornberg went 2-for-3 in the batter's box, leading Wayne State (2-9) offensively.
Wildcat starter Sami Felt (0-1) suffered the loss after surrendering four runs -- two earned -- on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks in 4 1/3 innings.
