WARRENSBURG, Mo. (April 6, 2021) - Both Central Missouri Mules Golf teams placed in the top-10 at the Mules Invitational, hosted at the Mules National Golf Club. Central Missouri A team finished second while the B team finished eighth.
Nick Westrich led all Mules with a share of the championship title.
The 23 teams competing in the Mule Invitational played through 27 holes day one and finished the final 27 holes on day two. Aside from the 15 to 20 mph wind gusts, both days recorded temperatures in the 70s with clear skies and sunshine.
After finishing the first 27 holes six over, the Mules A team recorded the lowest score of the final round to finish second in the invitational. Central Missouri's A team of
Nick Westrich,
Matt Hoemann,
Sam Parrott,
Ian Barnes, and
Thomas Henson shot a 282 in the opening round, 291 in the second round, and finished the final rough with a 280 to finished even with a team total of 853. The B team of
Drew Eaton,
Bennett Tiefenbrunn,
Cameron Rosenberg,
Caleb Peters, and
Cole Elling accumulated a three round team score of +12, 868 for an eighth-place finish.
Westrich led all Mules finishing even through 54 holes. His final score of 210 tied Missouri-St. Louis' Chris Ferries and Washburn's Andrew Becker for a three-way tie of the title. Westrich shot a team-low 67 in round one then added eight strokes in round two to sit two over heading into the final round. He lead all Mules again in the three round shooting a -2, 68. Westrich and Ferries both birded the first playoff round to go head-to-head on Mules National's hole 18. Ferries defeated Westrich in the final playoff shooting par while Westrich bogeyed the final hole.
Also placing in the top-10 individually was
Drew Eaton and Bennett Tifenbrunn on the Mules B team. Both Eaton and Tifenbrunn finished two over with 54 hole totals of 212 to tie for ninth at the invitational.
The runner-up of UCM's A team was
Matt Hoemann with a 54 hole total of +4, 214. Hoemann finished one under through round one and five over through round two. He shot an even 70 in the final round to finish in the tie for 14th. Both
Sam Parrott and
Ian Barnes shot one over on the final round. Parrott tied for 24th with a three-round score of 216 while Barnes finished in a tie for 27th with a 54 hole total of 217. Team A's final scorer was
Thomas Henson finishing eight over at 218 to tie 32nd.
Cameron Rosenberg recorded the UCM B team's third-best score with a 54 hole total of 222 to tie 48th.
Caleb Peters finished in a tie for 74th shooting 228 while
Cole Elling tied for 78th with a total score of 229.
The Mules A team led all 23 teams with 176 par. Wistrich and Hoemann each led all 119 golfers with 42 pars apeice. Central Missouri's B team finished with 154 pars led by Tifenbrunn with 37. Tifenbrunn also led all golfers on par fours finished three under with an average score of 3.88. Altogether the Mules shot 77 birdies, 39 which belonged to the A team and 38 to the B team. Henson and Eaton led the Mules with 11 birdies each.
Washburn won the Mule invitational shooting an even 850. Rogers State finished in third-place, three stroke above the Mules with a 856.
Mules Golf returns to competition on Monday, April 12th at the Northeastern State Invitational. The two-day event is scheduled to begin Monday morning at the Muskogee Country Club in Muskogee, Okla.
