Jennies Wrap Up Regular Season against Lincoln and Washburn

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (April 30, 2021) - Central Missouri Softball will conclude its regular-season competition on the road with MIAA doubleheaders against Lincoln and Washburn. 

Opponents:
Lincoln Blue Tigers (6-33-1, 3-21 MIAA)
Washburn Ichabods (25-12, 11-9 MIAA)

When:
vs. Lincoln - Saturday, May 1st - 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
vs. Washburn - Monday, May 3rd - 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.

Where:
vs. Lincoln - Lincoln Softball Field - Jefferson City, Mo. 
vs. Washburn - Gahnstrom Field - Topeka, Kan. 

Leading Off:
• Central Missouri continues league competition on the road with two final regular-season MIAA doubleheaders against Lincoln and Washburn. 
• The Jennies are coming off a league sweep over Missouri Western last week. Central Missouri defeated the Griffons 7-2 in game one and 2-1 in the second. 
• While the Jennies played in one doubleheader last week Lincoln had two and Washburn competed in four. 
• The Blue Tigers went 0-4 competing against Washburn and Missouri S&T. Lincoln's four consecutive losses adds to its 10 game losing streak. The Blue Tigers last win was a 10-5 victory against Emporia State on April 10th. 
• The Ichabods went 5-5 last week competing against all MIAA teams. Washburn swept both Newman and Lincoln, suffered two losses to both Missouri Southern and Northwest Missouri, and split with Emporia State. Washburn played Missouri Western earlier this week, splitting with the Griffons 3-8 and 3-0. 
• Washburn currently sits in seventh in the MIAA with a league record of 11-9 while the Jennies are in second with a record of 17-5 in league play. Lincoln ranks at the bottom of the league with just three MIAA victories. 
• The Ichabods will compete in two road MIAA doubleheaders with Northeastern State on Friday and Rogers State on Saturday before hosting the Jennies on Monday both team's final contests of the regular season.

Jennie Notes: 
• Earlier this week the NCAA announced the top eight teams of each Division II region. The Jennies made the list of top teams in the Central Region, joining three other MIAA competitiors. 
• Central Missouri has one of the top offenses in the MIAA with a league-high 334 hits and league-best .514 slugging percentage while their team .325 batting average ranks second. 
• Through 38 games the Jennies offense has recorded 334 hits, 198 runs, 178 RBI and 89 walks. Central Missouri's total hits leads the MIAA and ranks 20th in Division II while the Jennies 39 home runs also ranks 20th in the nation and second in the league. 
• The Jennies offense is lead by right fielder Ashlyn Cook who ranks fourth in the MIAA with a team-best batting average of .396 and slugging percentage of .670. Cook also shares the team-high 27 RBI with Bailey Fowler and the team-high seven home runs with Jessica Sader
• Center fielder Fowler leads the UCM offense in on-base percentage (.459), runs scored (33), walks (18), and doubles (16). Her .384 batting average ranks eighth in the MIAA. Fowler's 16 doubles leads the MIAA and ranks second in Division II. 
• Jennies shortstop and leadoff hitter Abbey Fischer posts the team-high 46 hits and leads UCM with 17 stolen bases to rank in the MIAA's top-10 in both categories. 
• Defensively, UCM's pitching staff ranks fourth in the MIAA with a team ERA of 2.44. They have allowed the least walks in the league at just 45 walks in 980 at-bats to rank sixth in Division II with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 5.42.
• Pagie Petefish and Sadie Parks both rank in the league's top-10 pitching. Petefish posts a team-best ERA of 2.00 which ranks second in the MIAA while Parks' ERA of 2.18 ranks fifth.  
• Sophomore Petefish also ranks third in the league with a .216 opposing batting average. Her team-best .216 opposing batting average and team-high 85 strikeouts both rank fourth in the MIAA. In a team-high 91 innings pitched, Petefish as allowed 75 hits and 26 earned runs while giving up just 17 walks. 
• Freshman Parks has allowed the least amount of walks in the MIAA with just five in 285 at-bats. She ranks fourth individually in Division II with a 13.60 strikeout-to-walk ratio. 
• Central Missouri also post one of the top-25 team fielding percentages in Division II and ranks fourth in the MIAA with a .971 fielding percentage.
• The Jennies post a record of 8-2  in road games this season. 

Scouting the Opposition:
LINCOLN BLUE TIGERS (6-33-1, 3-21 MIAA)
• Through 40 games this season Lincoln's offense has recorded 222 hits, 110 runs, 98 RBI and 98 walks. The Blue Tigers post a team batting average of .226 to rank at the bottom of the MIAA. 
• Lincoln's defense has allowed the most opponent hits in the league with 342 while the Blue Tigers pitching staff has thrown the most walks in the MIAA with 148.
• Left fielder Emily Williams posts the team-best batting average of .289 and shares a team-high 17 RBI with first baseman Jordan Hollon. Hollon also posts the team-high 22 walks and 20 runs scored 
• Senior center fielder Jordan Lawson leads the Blue Tigers with 33 hits while freshman third baseman leads Lincoln with four triples and 11 stolen bases. 
• Tressa Hughes has throw a team-high 74 innings for the Blue Tigers. In 317 at-bats, she's allowed 99 hits, 59 earned runs, and 47 walks while leading Lincoln with 50 strikeouts. 
• Waddie Welker leads Lincoln's pitching staff with 22 appearances. In 67.2 innings she posts a 4.66 ERA with 88 hits, 45 earned runs, 35 walks, and 39 strikeouts. 
• Lincoln's defense has recorded the second-most errors in the league with 60 for a team fielding percentage of .945.
• The Blue Tigers are 3-12-1 this season while hosting teams on the LU Softball Field. 

Previously vs. the Blue Tigers
• Central Missouri dominates the all-time series against Lincoln 63-4.
• Prior to their league split against the Jennies in the 2019 season, UCM had won 10 straight against the Blue Tigers. 
• Head Coach Susan Anderson is 16-3 overall while competing against Lincoln. 

WASHBURN ICHABODS (25-12, 11-9 MIAA) 
• The Ichabods team batting average of .328 currently leads the MIAA while their 325 total hits ranks behind the Jennies in second. 
• Washburn's offense is led by its freshman third baseman Marrit Mead whose .477 batting average ranks second in the league and 16th in Division II. Mead also ranks second in the MIAA and sixth in Division II with 62 hits while her 41 runs scored and .504 on-base percentage also ranks second in the league. 
• Mead also posts a team-high 21 stolen bases which ranks third in the MIAA. She has yet to be thrown out this season.
• The Ichabods designated player Ashton Friend also ranks in the league's top-10 offensively with a .390 batting average. Friend has driven in a team-high 42 runs to rank second in the MIAA. She also leads the Ichabods in extra base hits with 11 doubles and eight home runs. 
• Washburn's pitching staff currently ranks seventh in the MIAA with a team ERA of 3.38. 
• Reagen Hamm and Jaycee Ginter each lead the Ichabods with 3.19 ERAs and 12 wins apiece. 
• In 105 innings, Hamm has allowed 103 hits, 48 earned runs, 49 walks and has struck out 83 batters. She currently posts the team-best opposing batting average at .249.
• In 101 innings pitched, Ginter has allowed 104 hits, 46 earned runs, and 40 walks while leading the Ichabods with 84 strikeouts. 
• Washburn's defense ranks second in the MIAA with a .973 team fielding percentage to also rank in the top-25 in Division II.
• The Ichabods post a record of 13-4 while playing on their home turf this season. 

Previously vs. the Icahbods
• Monday's doubleheader marks the 94th and 95th meetings between the Jennies and the Ichabods with UCM leading the all-time series 49-44. 
• In their last five MIAA doubleheaders, Washburn has won six of the last 10 games against the Jennies. 
• The last time Washburn and UCM went head-to-head was in the 2019 season which ended in a draw as the Jennies took game one 5-4 in eight innings and the Ichabods won game two 8-2.
• Head Coach Susan Anderson is 19-12 overall against Washburn. 

Individual Milestones:
• Junior first baseman Makenzie McAtee is just three hits away from her career 100th and four putouts away from her career 200th. 
• Sophomore Paige Petefish recorded her 100th career strikeout against No. 3 Augustana. She is now just 15 strikeouts away from having 100 on the season. 
• Sophomore right fielder Ashlyn Cook and junior third baseman Jessica Sader recorded their 100th career hits and 100th career putouts earlier this season. 
• Head Coach Susan Anderson recorded her 600th career win in the Jennies 3-1 extra innings victory over Truman State in UCM's fourth game of the season. 

Last Time Out:
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (April 22, 2021) - Central Missouri picked up two wins against Missouri Western Thursday afternoon on the road. The Jennies outscored the Griffons 7-2 in game and won the second 2-1. Center Fielder Bailey Fowler led the Jennies offense on the day with four hits and three RBI in seven at-bats. 

GAME 1 - Central Missouri 7, Western Missouri 2
• Central Missouri tied its season-high single inning runs scored total with seven runs in the second inning of game one against the Griffons. 
• With two outs and bases loaded in the top of the second, shortstop Abbey Fischer singled to right field scoring both Taylor Nickel and Jessica Sadar for the first runs of the game. 
• In the following at-bats, center fielder Bailey Fowler and first baseman Makenzie McAtee hit back-to-back doubles, scoring Brenlyn McCoy, Fischer, and Fowler for the 5-0 lead. 
• The Jennies weren't finished yet, after the consecutive doubles the designated player Sydney Wellshear hit one out over left field scoring McAtee and herself to increase UCM's lead to 7-0. 
• Through the first six innings, Paige Petefish and the UCM defense gave up eight hits without a run scored. 
• Central Missouri held on to its 7-0 lead until the bottom of the seventh. In MWSU's rally attempt, the Griffons totaled two runs off four hits and left three runners on base when Kyleigh Lay struck out the third out of the inning. 
• Following the completion of the second inning, the Griffons defense held the Jennies with just four hits and three runners left on base. 
• The Jennies out hit the Griffons 9-8 with eight different Jennies recorded UCM's nine total hits. 
• Three of UCM's nine hits were doubles, hit by Fowler, McAtee and Nickel. 

GAME 2 - Central Missouri 2, Western Missouri 1
• Missouri Western was the first to score in game two off one hit and one UCM error in the bottom of the first. 
• Central Missouri scored all of its runs in a single inning again in game two.
• Down 1-0 after two complete innings, Bailey Fowler singled to the right side to scoring pinch runner Peyton Corrigan for the Jennies first run of the game. 
• Left fielder Aubri McRoberts plated the Jennies second and final run of the inning and game, scoring off a MWSU error while fielding Makenzie McAtee's infield hit. 
• The remaining at-bats saw four hits, three of which came off the bats of Griffons. 
• Both MWSU and UCM recorded four hits in game two. 
• Game two saw 14 strikeouts, eight of which belongs to UCM's Sadie Parks.

Season Notes:
• Jennies left field Makenzie Cooper experienced a season-ending injury in UCM's 13th game of the season. Prior to her injury, Cooper was leading the Jennies offense with a .567 batting average, a 1.133 slugging percentage, and a .629 on-base percentage. 
• Central Missouri was able to squeeze 17 games in before the NCAA's cancelation of the remaining spring sport season in March 2020. The Jennies went 11-6 overall and 3-1 in MIAA competition. 
• The Jennies were selected fourth in the 2021 MIAA Coaches Preseason Poll with 138 total points. 
• A total of 15 Jennies return from last year's squad which includes eight position starters. Central Missouri graduated four seniors last spring, including center fielder Lauryn Deer who led the Jennies with 24 runs scored and 12 stolen bases last season. 
• Central Missouri welcomed six newcomers to the 2021 Jennies softball team. 
• The 2021 season marks Head Coach Susan Anderson's 15th season leading Jennies Softball. She posts a 415-305 record at UCM and a 596-477 overall record in her 23rd year as a head coach.
