PITTSBURG, Kan. (April 24, 2021) - Central Missouri Track and Field continued their outdoor season Saturday afternoon at Pittsburg State for the Pitt State Tune-Up.
Sprints/Hurdles
• It was a good day for
Antonio Lay who won two races and set two personal-bests. Lay, after finishing second in the 100m dash prelims took first in the finals running 10.49. He later went on to win the 200m dash in 21.28 which ties him for eighth all-time at UCM. Both marks are NCAA provisional qualifiers.
•
Adam McCauley led the Mules quarter-milers running 50.28 to place 17th.
Jake Sanders wasn't far back in 21st running 50.82.
• Running over hurdles,
Brett Shaffer set a big personal-best running 14.73 in the 110m to finish fifth.
Garrett Francis also ran below 15 seconds in the event for the first time running 14.91 in the finals to place eighth.
• Shaffer then came back and set a personal-best in the 400m intermediate hurdles as well. He was third running 54.35.
•
Laia Gonzalez continues to lower her personal-best in the 100m hurdles. She ran 14.01 an, NCAA provo mark and fifth all-time at UCM in the prelims. She went on to win the finals running 14.07.
Kayla Goodwin was sixth in the prelims running 14.46. Gonzalez also finished second for UCM in the 400m hurdles in 1:01.33.

Destiney Nash and
Hope Thiel each placed in the top-five in the 400m dash. Nash ran 57.11 for third place and Thiel ran 57.43 for fifth.
• In the short sprints,
Libby Brown led the Jennies in the 100m dash running 12.38 and
Lenetta Lee ran 26.27 for 200m
Relays
• In a thrilling women's 4x400m relay, the Jennies team of Alex Foote, Gonzalez, Thiel and Nash finished in second place running a season-best 3:47.29 and was just 1/100th of a second behind the first place team and an NCAA provisional qualifier.
• The Mules 4x4 team of Sanders,
Adam McCauley,
Derek Nugent and
Tanner Skotnicki ran 3:17.70 to place seventh.
Distance
• Lilian Businei set another PR in the 3,000m steeplechase winning the event running 10:49.95.
Makenzie Stucker's time of 12:17.87 was also a personal-best and placed her 10th.
•
Mariah Elmore ran the 800m and placed seventh in 2:16.26.
Kimberlee Sewester set a PR running 2:23.64.
• Another personal-best was set in the 1500m as
Sami Skibell ran 5:07.49 for 13th place.
• The Mules'
Nick Victor took fourth place in the 5,000m running 15:07.29.
• Another top-10 finish came from
Denzel Kiptoo who was seventh in the 1500m running 3:59.28.

Derek Nugent led the Mules in the 800m placing 14th in 1:55.18.
Tanner Skotnicki was 19th running 1:56.41.
Vertical Jumps
• Both
Cassie Jennings and
Madi Wulfekotter cleared 13-2.5 in the women's pole vault which ties them for second all-time at UCM outdoors. Wulfekotter placed second and Jennings fourth due to number of attempts.
•
Vincent Hobbie and
Jan Jansky also cleared the same height in the vault and placed first and second. They each jumped 17-1.5.
Garrett Francis placed third in the open vault competition jumping 15-5 which is a personal-best. He needed three jumps to make his first bar and then made two more.
•
Molly Greene won the open pole vault competition jumping 11-7.
•
Carter Bell set a new personal-best in the high jump clearing 6-4 for fifth place.
Cade Conley was also in the top-10 jumping 6-2.75 and placing eighth.
Horizontal Jumps
• Chris Goodwin won the long jump competition with a leap of 24-6.5.
Austin Staib was eighth jumping 22-8.5 and
Colby Stein hit a PR jumping 21-3 for 14th place.
• On his final jump,
Jesse Miller took second place in the triple jump with a mark of 48-9.

Kayla Goodwin hit personal-best and NCAA provo marks in the long jump. Goodwin jumped 19-1.25 to place third and move to sixth all-time at UCM. Goodwin made sure to make her jump count, getting off one legal jump in six attempts.
Libby Brown took 20th place jumping 16-8.
• Both
Isabelle Crespo and
Nicole Johnson jumped outdoor personal-bests in the triple jump. Crespo placed 12th jumping 35-6.5 and Johnson was 16th at 35-2.5.
Throws
•
Alisha Straws hit her best outdoor shot put throwing 45-10 which is fifth in UCM and an NCAA provisional qualifier. She finished third in the competition. Finishing second was
Ashlan Burton who threw 48-1.75. Straws and Burton also finished in the top-five in the discus. Straws threw 160-9 for third place and Burton 150-6 for fifth place.
•
Rachael Molloy placed second in the hammer throw with a toss of 175-5.
•
Brandi VanBlarcum had a ninth place finish in the javelin throwing 130-2.
Abby Vogel was 12th with a personal-best throw of 126-4.
• For the Mules,
Justin Dannar had a personal-best throw in the discus with a toss of 165-10 which is also an NCAA provisional qualifier, placing sixth in the event. Dannar also threw the hammer and was 26th with a throw of 145-7.
•
Kyle Schilling threw the javelin for the Mules placing 23rd at 138-0.
Up next the Mules are at home for the Vernon Kennedy Classic next Saturday, May 1. It'll be the final meet before the MIAA Championships.
