MUSKOGEE, Okla. (April 13, 2021) - Central Missouri Mules Golf picked up their fourth win in six tournaments played this season as they took home the first place trophy at the 22nd annual Northeastern State Golf Classic.
The Mules won by four strokes over second-place Henderson State on the strength of their first two rounds. The Mules shot -5, 279 in each of the first two rounds. In the final round, they were +5 with a 289 for a 54-hole total -5, 847.
Central Missouri had the best team average on par-three holes, averaging 3.12 for all par-threes. They were also second in the field with 164 total pars and 52 total birdies.Â
Sam Parrott moved up on day two to finish in a tie for third place, two shots behind the leaders. He shot rounds of 68, 71, and 70 to finish at four-under-par with a 209. Parrott made three birdies in round two and 10 for the tournament with 35 pars.
Nick Westrich led the Mules making 13 birdies in 54 holes. He finished in a tie for seventh place with a -3, 210, just one stroke behind Parrott. Westrich sandwiched rounds of 71 around a low-round 68 in round two. Westrich also led the Mules with 13 birdies.Â
Also placing in the top-10 was
Thomas Henson in a tie for ninth. Henson finished even through round one and led the Mules in round two, tying the lowest 18-hole score of the invitational at -4, 67. Henson finished two over in the third round to finish with a 54-hole total of -2, 211. Henson also led the Mules with 36 pars.Â
Ian Barnes shot rounds of 69, 73, and 75 to finish five over par at 217 to tie for 30th.
Matt Hoemann shot an even 71 his first round then finished five over in both the second and third rounds. He finished in a tie for 63rd with a total score of 223.Â
Central Missouri finished four strokes ahead of second place Henderson State and five ahead of third place Rogers State. Luke Palmowski of Rogers State was the individual champion winning on a second playoff hole. He and Kade Johnson of Southern Arkansas tied for the win shooting a -6, 207 for the tournament.Â
The NSU Golf Classic was played at the Muskogee Country Club in Muskogee, Okla.. It's a par-71 course that plays 6729 yards.
The Mules are now finished with the regular season, but not with the state of Oklahoma. They'll be back next week for the MIAA Championships at the Shangri-La Country Club in Monkey Island, Okla. April 19-20.Â
