Jennies Host Tigers in Tuesday Doubleheader

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (April 12, 2021) - Central Missouri Softball (21-9, 10-4 MIAA) looks to add two more wins on its five game winning streak with an MIAA doubleheader against Fort Hays State Tuesday afternoon on Jennies Field. 

Opponents:
Fort Hays State Tigers (16-14, 9-3 MIAA)

When:
Tuesday, April 13th - 1 and 3 p.m.

Where:
South Recreation Complex - Jennies Field - Warrensburg, Mo. 

Leading Off:
• Central Missouri is on a five game win streak after picking up its second consecutive MIAA sweep against Emporia State last Friday. 
• The Jennies out hit the Hornets 21-3. Kyleigh Lay and the UCM defense shutout ESU 3-0 in game one, then Paige Petefish led the Jens to the 4-1 victory in game two. 
• Fort Hays State is also coming off a league sweep with two wins against Nebraska-Kearney this past Saturday. 
• The Tigers took game one 4-3 then beat the Lopers 7-3 in game two. 
• Fort Hays State currently ranks fourth in MIAA rankings with a league record of 9-3 while the Jennies currently rank fifth with a record of 10-4 against MIAA opponents. 
• The Jennies are 11-3 while playing at home this season while the Tigers posts a record of 5-6 when playing on the road.

Jennie Notes: 
• Central Missouri's offense currently leads the MIAA with a .340 batting average and a .545 slugging percentage. 
• Through 30 games the Jennies have recorded 273 hits, 164 runs, 144 RBI and 70 walks. Among UCM's 273 hits, 98 of them have been for extra bases with 62 doubles, five triples, and 31 home runs. 
• The Jennies 273 hits ranks fourth in Division II while their 62 total doubles leads the MIAA and their 2.07 doubles per game ranks ninth in Division II. Central Missouri's 31 home runs also rank third in the league and 16th in Division II. 
• Three Jennies currently rank in the league's top-10 hitters lead by Bailey Fowler who's hitting .409 to rank fifth in the MIAA. Ashlyn Cook ranks sixth in the league with a .405 batting average while Abbey Fischer ranks seventh hitting .398. 
• Center fielder Fowler also leads the UCM offense in runs scored (28), walks (14), and doubles (15). She also posts the team-high slugging percentage of .705 and the team-best on-base percentage at .476 which both rank sixth in the MIAA. Fowler's 15 doubles leads the league and ties for first in Division II. 
• Jennies leadoff hitter Fischer leads UCM with 16 stollen bases which ties for third in the MIAA and ranks sixth in the league with a team-high 39 hits.
• Fowler and right fielder Cook share the Jennies team-high 23 RBI. Cook, Fischer, and third baseman Jessica also share the team-high five home runs. 
• Central Missouri's pitching staff ranks sixth in the MIAA with a team ERA of 2.60. They have allowed the least walks in the league with just 31 walks in 737 at-bats to rank sixth in Division II with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 5.83.
• Freshman Sadie Parks leads the UCM pitching staff and ranks fifth in the league with a 2.19 ERA.   Parks ranks at the top of the MIAA with just four walks allowed in 207 at-bats. She ranks eighth in Division II with an individual strikeout-to-walk ratio of 12.50. 
• Sophomore Paige Petefish leads the Jennies with 71 strikeouts which ranks fifth in the league. Petefish also leads UCM with 72.2 innings pitched and posts the team-high nine wins. Her 2.31 ERA ranks seventh in the MIAA.  
• Central Missouri post one of the top-25 team fielding percentages in Division II and rank third in the MIAA with a .971 fielding percentage.

Scouting the Opposition:
FORT HAYS STATE TIGERS (16-14, 9-3 MIAA)
• Through 30 games FHSU's offense has totaled 234 hits, 112 runs, 101 RBI and 68 walks while the Tigers pitching staff and defense has allowed 197 hits, 91 runs scored, and 76 walks. 
• The Tigers team batting average of .281 ranks ninth in the MIAA while their 2.38 team ERA ranks third.
• Fort Hays State's offense is lead by senior Grace Philop and junior Sara Breckbill. Philop's .388 batting average ranks ninth in the MIAA while Breckbill's .381 batting average ranks 10th. 
• Breckbill leads the Tigers with 37 hits, 19 RBI, and posts the team-high slugging percentage of .505.
• Freshman Sarah Tiffany leads FHSU with 17 runs scored and posts a team-high seven stolen bases. 
• In their last outing, FHSU recorded a season-high 14 hits in their 7-3 victory against the Lopers. Philop led the Tigers attack with three hits. 
• Fort Hays State's Michaelanee Nelson currently ties for first in the MIAA with a 1.57 ERA. The senior leads the league with 30 strikeouts looking and ranks third with 83 total strikeouts. She also posts the Tiger's team-best .220 opponent batting average which ranks sixth in the league. 
• Hailey Chapman leads the FHSU pitching staff with 95 innings pitched. In 385 at bats she's allowed 106 hits, 41 earned runs, 42 walks, and has struck out 63 batters. 

Previously vs. the Tigers
• Central Missouri leads the all-time series against FHSU 26-14. 
• The Jennies have on the last nine consecutive meetings against the Tigers which includes four MIAA sweeps and a victory in the MIAA Tournament. 
• The last time FHSU defeated UCM in Warrensburg was a 7-0 Tigers victory in the 2013 season. 
• Head Coach Susan Anderson is 23-14 overall against the Tigers. 

Individual Milestones:
• Sophomore right fielder Ashlyn Cook earned her 100th career start in UCM's last outing against ESU. She is now just two putouts away from her career 100th. 
• Junior first baseman Makenzie McAtee is eight hits away and five starts away from her career 100th in each category. 
• Junior third baseman Jessica Sader recorded her 100th career hit against No. 21 Rogers State. She is just one start away from earning her career 100th. 
• Sophomore Paige Petefish recorded her 100th career strikeout against No. 3 Augustana.  
• Head Coach Susan Anderson recorded her 600th career win in the Jennies 3-1 extra innings victory over Truman State in UCM's fourth game of the season. 

Last Time Out:
EMPORIA, Kan. (April 9, 2021) - Central Missouri Softball picked up its second consecutive MIAA sweep with two wins over Emporia State on the road. Kyleigh Lay and the Jennies defense claimed the 3-0 shutout in game one while Paige Petefish threw the Jennies 4-1 victory in game two. 

GAME 1 - Central Missouri 3, Emporia State 0
• The Jennies scored three runs in three separate innings in their 3-0 shutout over Emporia State. 
• The first three innings went scoreless. Central Missouri recorded three hits and left three running on base through three innings while the Hornets went without a hit.
• A singly through the left side by second baseman Brenlyn McCoy scored right fielder Ashlyn Cook for the first run of the game as the Jennies took a 1-0 lead. 
• The Jennies added another in the next inning as center fielder Bailey Fowler singled through the right side, scoring left fielder Aubrie McRoberts
• Central Missouri scored its third and final run of the game in the top of the seventh. Fowler, the MIAA leader in doubles, doubled to left field scoring shortstop Abbey Fischer
• Kyleigh Lay and the UCM defense allowed just two hits through seven innings.
• The Jennies out hit the Hornets 11-2. 

GAME 2 - Central Missouri 4, Emporia State 1
• The Hornets were the first to score in game two as they plated one run off one hit and one UCM error in the bottom of the first. The run would be the only ESU score of the day. 
• The Jennies quickly responded with a run of their own in the top of the second as Carson Staponski singled through the left side scoring pinch runner Peyton Corrigan
• Central Missouri too the 2-1 lead in the top of the third. First basemen Makenzie McAtee singled through the right side to score Abbey Fischer, unearned. 
• The Jennies added another in their next at-bats in the top of the fourth as Jessica Sader hit a solo bomb to left field, increased the Jennies lead to 3-1. 
• As Paige Petefish and the UCM defense continued to hold the Hornets offense, the Jennies scored the fourth and final run of the day in the top of the sixth. Another Staponski single scored Ashlyn Cook from third. 
• Central Missouri out hit the Hornets 10-1 in game two. 
• Petefish and the Jennies defense allowed just two runners on base through the entire seven innings.

Season Notes:
• Jennies left field Makenzie Cooper experienced a season-ending injury in UCM's 13th game of the season. Prior to her injury, Cooper was leading the Jennies offense with a .567 batting average, a 1.133 slugging percentage, and a .629 on-base percentage. 
• Central Missouri was able to squeeze 17 games in before the NCAA's cancelation of the remaining spring sport season in March 2020. The Jennies went 11-6 overall and 3-1 in MIAA competition. 
• The Jennies were selected fourth in the 2021 MIAA Coaches Preseason Poll with 138 total points. 
• A total of 15 Jennies return from last year's squad which includes eight position starters. Central Missouri graduated four seniors last spring, including center fielder Lauryn Deer who led the Jennies with 24 runs scored and 12 stolen bases last season. 
• Central Missouri welcomed six newcomers to the 2021 Jennies softball team. 
• The 2021 season marks Head Coach Susan Anderson's 15th season leading Jennies Softball. She posts a 415-305 record at UCM and a 596-477 overall record in her 23rd year as a head coach.
