Ulrich Hits NCAA Automatic Qualifier at Pitt

PITTSBURG, Kan. (April 10, 2021) - Track and Field season rolled on for Central Missouri. The Mules and Jennies were in action in Pittsburg, Kan. The meet was originally scheduled for Saturday, but due to poor weather was moved to Sunday. 

Vertical Jumps
Reagan Ulrich had his finest day in the pole vault. He jumped an NCAA automatic qualifying mark 17-2.25 to win the event. Ulrich came up big on his third attempts, making third attempt clearances at 5.04, 5.14 and 5.24. 
• Ulrich wasn't the only Mule pole vaulter with an NCAA qualifying jump. Vincent Hobbie finished second clearing 16-10.25 and Jan Jansky was fourth jumping 16-6.5. Jack Hodge took sixth at 16-2.5 and all three are NCAA provisional qualifiers. 
Garrett Francis also set a personal-best clearing 15-4, seven inches higher than his previous best. 
Cassie Jennings cleared 12-10.75 in the pole vault to finish in second place. 
• In the men's high jump, Carter Bell and Cade Conley each cleared 6-2. Bell was second based on number of attempts and Conley third.
Alissa Barkalow cleared 4-9.75 to place eighth overall. 

Distance
• Both the Jennies and Mules had a winner in the 5K. Lilian Busienei ran 17:37.81 to win the event for the Jennies. That time puts her seventh all-time at UCM in the outdoor 5K. On the men's side, Aaron Westhoff ran 15:24.01, a personal-best to win the race. 
Mariah Elmore took second place in the 800m run. She finished the two-lap race in 2:14.14. Kimberlee Sewester ran a personal-best in the event 2:24.18 for 12th place and Hope Thiel was 13th in 2:24.30.
Cynthia Togom placed fourth in the 1500m running 4:38.16 which is just shy of a personal-best. Makenzie Bergman ran 4:56.63 for 11th place. 
Denzel Kiptoo led the Mules in the 1500m. He was eighth running 4:02.13. He later came back to run the 800m and placed 14th in 1:57.91.
Zach Adams and Nick Victor each set personal-bests in the 1500m. Adams ran 4:11.65 and Victor 4:12.13.
Tanner Skotnicki had a top-10 finish placing ninth in 1:56.53 for 800m. 

Throws
Ashlan Burton had three top-10 finishes in the throwing events. She won the shot put throwing 49-0.75 which is an NCAA provisional qualifier. She set a season-best in the discus throwing 156-3, which is an NCAA provisional qualifier as well to place fourth. In her first hammer throw of the season, Burton threw 156-2 to finish in sixth place.
Alisha Straws hit also hit an NCAA qualifier. First she took second place in the discus throwing a personal-best 161-0 which moved her up to fifth all-time at UCM. She then finished fourth in the shot put throwing 44-9.75. 
Rachael Molloy won the hammer throw throwing 182-4 which immediately puts her fourth all-time at UCM. She also set a personal-best in the discus throwing 132-1. 
• The Mules' Addison Snowball and Justin Dannar threw the hammer for the first time this season. Snowball finished eighth throwing 158-4 and Dannar was 12th with a mark of 140-7. 
• Snowball also competed in the shot put and discus. He was sixth in the shot throwing an outdoor PR 51-4.5 which came on his final throw in the finals. He was also sixth in the discus at 157-7. Justin Dannar set a PR in the discus, taking fifth place throwing 163-1. 
Michael Waldron and Trenton Flug finished back-to-back in the javelin. Waldron threw 167-10 for seventh place and Flug was eight at 160-1. Kyle Schilling took 10th place throwing 141-1. 

Horizontal Jumps
Jesse Miller had a huge jump in the long jump. On his final jump he set a personal-best at 25-1.25. It puts him fourth in Mules history, just the fifth Mule to ever jump 25 feet in the event. The jump came on his final attempt, and was an improvement of 18.5 inches on the day and an NCAA provo qualifier.
Austin Staib and Trent Davis also finished in the top-10 in the long jump with personal-bests. Staib took third jumping 23-0.75 and Davis jumped 21-11.5 for sixth place.
• Brad Miller jumped 48-6 in the triple jump and placed second.
• For the Jennies, Kayla Goodwin set a personal-best in the triple jump with a mark of 41-6. That jump is third all-time at UCM and an NCAA provisional qualifier. 
Libby Brown and Isabelle Crespo finished 10th and 11th in the long jump. Brown jumped 16-7, her best mark outdoors, and Crespo 16-5. 

Sprints/Hurdles
• There were no prelims and finals in the short sprints, everything was finals. Laia Gonzalez ran 14.33 in the 100m hurdles to finish in fourth place. Kayla Goodwin took sixth in the event running 14.50. Gonzalez came back to run the 400m hurdles and against finished second. She ran 1:01.25 which is an NCAA provo time and personal-best. It moved her up to seventh all-time at UCM. 
• Alex Foote had a top-10 finish in the 400m running 58.03 and placed sixth.
Destiney Nash led the Jennies in the 200m dash. She placed eighth running 25.11. 
Antonio Lay picked up an event win in the 200m dash. He ran 21.39. Colby Stein (23.09) and Johnnie Hayes (24.12) also set personal-bests in the event. Running for the first time, Jesse Miller ran 23.30. 
Andrew Paster and Brett Shaffer finished fourth and fifth in the 110m hurdles. Paster was fourth running 15.07 and Shaffer ran a PR 15.10. Garrett Francis also ran a personal-best 15.29 to place seventh.
Derek Nugent ran 49.94 for 400m, the fastest time for a Mule this season and a personal-best. He finished in 10th place. Adam McCauley was 12th in 50.18.  
• For the first time in his career, Christopher Goodwin ran in the 100m dash. He placed ninth running 11.15. Colby Stein (11.32) and Johnnie Hayes (11.37) each ran personal-bests and finished 11th and 12th.
Jovan Brown ran 54.04 in the 400m hurdles to place second. That's a personal-best for him at UCM. Three other Mules ran PR's in the event. Nate Rittenbacher (57.04) who placed sixth, Brad Browning (57.78) who placed eighth and Paul Lanigan (58.33) who placed 10th. 

Relays
• The Jennies 4x400m relay team of Alex Foote, Laia Gonzalez, Hope Thiel and Destiney Nash finished in second place running 3:49.55.
• The Mules had two teams run below 3:20.00. Jerald Allen, Antonio Lay, Derek Nugent and Tanner Skotnicki ran 3:19.00 to finish in second place. The team of Isaak Rasche, Christopher Goodwin, Adam McCauley and Brett Shaffer finished fourth running 3:19.86. 

Central Missouri will run their home meet, the Outdoor Mule Relays on Friday, April 16 at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field.
