LAS VEGAS, Nev. (March 8, 2021) - Central Missouri Mules Golf recorded the lowest scores in all three rounds to be crowned champions at the Las Vegas Desert Classic with a first-place score of -17, 847.
The Mules gained a significant lead throughout the first two rounds of the tournament shooting -18, 558 in the first 36 holes. On the final day of the classic, UCM shot a final round score of 289 to win the tournament with a three-round score of 847, 14 strokes below the second-place team Oklahoma Christian.Â
Matt Hoemann led all golfers in the final round with a round-low 67 and was named the runner-up of the classic with a three-round score of -10, 206. In his final 18 holes, Hoemann shot five birdies and recorded the tournament's only double eagle on a par five. Hoemann finished the opening day one under par and was tied for sixth with a two-round score of 139.Â
Thomas Henson and
Ian Barnes each tied for sixth shooting -2, 214. After scoring a 72 on round one and a 70 in round two, Henson shot another 72 in his final round to move up six places from where he finished after day one of the classic. Barnes led the Mules through the first two rounds of the classic with an opening day score of -6, 138. He shot his worst round in the final 18 with a 76.Â
Drew Eaton shot a final-round score of 74 to finish tied for 16th at +2, 218.
Nick Westrich scored an 81 in his final-round to finish tied for 29th at +6, 222.Â
Central Missouri led all teams in par three scoring, finishing just one over par on all par threes combined. Central Missouri tied with Colorado State-Pueble to lead the classic with 164 pars while the Mules also recorded the second-most birdies in the tournament with 58. Barnes and Hoemann led the Mules with 13 birdies each.Â
Mules golf returns to competition on Monday, March 15th at the Central Oklahoma Invitational. The two-day tournament will be hosted at the Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond, Okla.Â
