Leading Off:
• Central Missouri hosts its home opener on Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex against William Jewell.
• The Jennies and Cardinals match up on Sunday will be the teams' 24th and 25th meetings in program history.
• Central Missouri is coming off a 4-2 week competing in the Washburn Invitational. The Jennies won their first four games of the season but dropped their final two against Mary and Sioux Falls.
• William Jewell is off to a 1-7 start to the 2021 season. The Cardinals lone win came in a 6-5 victory over Parkside while competing in the Lewis Dome Invitational on Feb. 21st.
Jennie Notes:
• The Jennies opened the 2021 season competing in the Washburn Invitational where they went 4-2.
• The Jennies pitching staff recorded one of the best opening weeks in program history. With combination of four pitchers, UCM post a team ERA of 1.67 to rank eight in the nation and first in the MIAA.
• Central Missouri currently leads Division II with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 9.00 after recorded 45 strikeouts and only allowing 5 walks in 42 innings.
• Over the six games, the Jennies pitching staff allowed only 10 earned runs led by sophomore transfer
Kyleigh Lay and her 0.72 ERA with 12 strikeouts over 9.2 innings and a team-high three appearances. Lay's ERA also ranked fifth in the league.
• Offensively, UCM totaled 22 runs with 40 hits, 30 strikeouts, 15 walks and 13 RBI to post a team batting average of .285 and a team on-base percentage of .331.
• Central Missouri's starting shortstop
Abbey Fischer leads the Jennies in the box with a team-high batting average (.412), slugging percentage (.647), and on-base percentage (.500).
• The leadoff hitter led the Jennies opening weekend with 7 hits, 5 runs, 4 RBI, 4 walks, and 2 doubles.
• Starting left fielder
Ashlyn Cook recorded 6 hits and scored 4 runs in 17 at bats an posts a batting average of .353. Cook also leads UCM in stolen bases with 5 on 5 attempts.
• The Jennies are 12-13 in stolen base attempts to start the season.
Scouting the Opposition:
William Jewell Cardinals (1-7, 0-0 GLVC)
• The Cardinals will meet the Jennies on a four-game losing streak. In their last outing, William Jewell went 0-4 at the Drury Invitational with losses to Nebraska-Kearney (0-11, 5 innings), Northwest Missouri (4-7), Upper Iowa (2-4), and Midwestern State (2-4).
• As a team, the Cardinals are hitting .226 with 17 runs, 44 hits, 16 walks and 43 strikeouts. William Jewell has only attempted six stolen bases and has been successful on four of those attempts.
• William Jewell's offense is currently led by its senior third baseman Allison Rawis. Rawis post the team-high batting average of .440, the team-best slugging percentage of .720, and the team-high on-base percentage of .462.
• Rawis also leads the Cardinals in hits (11), RBI (6), runs (6), doubles (2), and is the only player with a triple and a homerun on the team.
• William Jewell's lead-off hitter Sabrina Olmo posts a .320 batting average with 8 hits and 3 runs on the young season. The starting right fielder is the only Cardinal to recorded a hit in all of William Jewell's last five games.
• Olmo also leads the Cardinals is stolen bases. She is 3-3 on the season.
• Pitching the Cardinals only win was freshman Abby Vandiver. With just 4 innings pitched, she allowed 3 hits and 1 run while striking out three to lead the William Jewell pitching staff with a team-low .188 opponent batting average.
• Freshman Sammie Welt leads the Cardinals in innings pitched with 17.0 this season. She's allowed 27 hits, 14 runs and 8 walks to have a 4.94 ERA and a .355 opponent batting average.
• After finishing the short 2020 season with a record of 10-8, William Jewell was picked 11th in the 2021 GLVC Coaches' Preseason Poll.

• Central Missouri leads the all-time series against William Jewell 15-8, however the Cardinals have won seven of the last 10 meetings.

Last Time Out:
TOPEKA, Kan. (Feb. 28, 2021) - Central Missouri Softball suffered its first losses of the season on the final day of the Washburn Invitational. The Jennies closed out the opening weekend with a record of 4-2.
Game 1 - Central Missouri 1, Mary 4
• Central Missouri had its slowest offensive start of the young season against Mary as the Jennies went without a hit for the first four innings.
• The Marauders wasted no time gaining an early advantage over UCM. With two outs and two runners on, Mary's second baseman doubled to right center, scoring both runners.
•
Brenlyn McCoy recorded UCM's first hit with a single to left field in the bottom of the fifth with two outs. The Marauders recorded their third out with the senior second baseman still on first.
• Mary added another run in the top of the sixth with one hit and one Jennies error to lead 3-0.
•
Sydney Wellshear recorded UCM's second hit with a single down the right field foul line with two outs. She was also left on first.
• With three hits in the top of the seventh, the Marauders added what would be their final run against the Jennies.
Kyleigh Lay came in to pitch for the Jennies with two runners on and no outs. Lay earned all three outs with strikeouts but gave up a single down the right field line in the process, increasing the Marauders lead to 4-0.
• Central Missouri's rally attempt in the bottom of the seventh fell short. With one out, freshmen
Aubrie McRoberts singled to left field and advanced to third on a fielding error. McRoberts was hit home by fellow freshman
Abby Allnutt with a double to center.
• The Mary defense recorded its final two outs on a Jennies popup and ground-out to third to defeat UCM 4-1.
• Four different Jennies accounted for UCM's total hits.
• The Marauders out-hit the Jennies 8-4.
• Wellshear, McRoberts, Allnutt and McCoy finished with one hit each.
• Allnutt drove in the Jennies solo run, scored by McRoberts.
• Freshmen
Sadie Parks threw six innings. She allowed seven Mary hits, gave up three earned runs and stuck out six.
• Lay came in for the final inning. She allowed one hit and calmed all three outs with strikeouts.
Game 2 - Central Missouri 1, Sioux Falls 3
• Both the Jennies and Cougars went three up, three down on their first attempts at the plate.
• Central Missouri recorded the game's first hit as
Sydney Wellshear singled up the middle in the top of the second.
• The Cougars scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the third with four hits. There were two Cougars left on base when UCM recorded its third out.

Jessica Sader opened the top of the fifth with a double down the left line. Central Missouri lost two outs to a double play as
Makenzie McAtee flew out to left field and pinch runner
Peyton Corrigan was thrown out at third on in the process.
• With two outs and bases cleared, second basement
Brenlyn McCoy singled up the middle to keep the inning alive.
• McCoy found her way home on a triple by shortstop
Abbey Fischer, putting UCM on the board at 3-1.
• The Jennies went 0-3 in the top of the sixth but had a shot in their final at bat with three Jennies recording hits.

Abby Allnutt doubled down the left field line but was thrown out on a rundown. Sader and McAtee's back-to-back singles were followed by a Sioux Falls ground double-play with a line out to the pitcher who tossed it to firstbase for the final out. The Cougars win 3-1.
• Central Missouri doubled its runs from the first game of the day. They finished with eight total, out-hitting Sioux Falls by two.
• Both the Jennies and Cougars left five runners on base.
• Sader went 2-3 to lead the UCM offense.
• Six Jennies finished with one hit each.

Paige Petefish threw her second full game of the season. She finished with six strikeouts while giving up six hits, three runs and two walk
Season Notes:
• Central Missouri was able to squeeze 17 games in before the NCAA's cancelation of the remaining spring sport season in March 2020. The Jennies went 11-6 overall and 3-1 in MIAA competition.
• The Jennies were selected fourth in the 2021 MIAA Coaches Preseason Poll with 138 total points.
• A total of 15 Jennies return from last year's squad which includes eight position starters. Central Missouri graduated four seniors last spring, including center fielder
Lauryn Deer who led the Jennies with 24 runs scored and 12 stolen bases last season.
• Central Missouri welcomed six newcomers to the 2021 Jennies softball team.
• The 2021 season marks Head Coach
Susan Anderson's 15th season leading Jennies Softball. She posts a 415-305 record at UCM and a 596-477 overall record in her 23rd year as a head coach.
