Mules Win Second-Straight Title at NSIC Preview

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 30, 2021) - Central Missouri Mules Golf won its second straight title at the NSIC Preview Invitational. The Mules defeated 25 teams with a team two-round total of 591.

Central Missouri held onto its opening day lead through the final day of the NSIC preview. The Mules lead by five strokes after the completion of the invitational's first 18 holes. Opening day of the NSIC Preview experienced harsh weather conditions with a wind advisory taking effect from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The pool of 146 golfers played in winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

The Mules improved their final round score by five strokes, shooting a 293 on the final 18. Central Missouri's final score of 591 was seven strokes under the invitational's runner-ups, Missouri Western State. The first-place finish is the Mules third championship title of the season. 

Thomas Henson was crowned the NSIC Preview Champion shooting a 36-hole total of 143. Henson was sitting in second-place through round one after shooting one over par. He shaved off one stroke in the final round for an even 71 to claim his first title of this career. Also placing in the top-10 was Matt Hoemann. Hoemann also shot even his final round, a six-stroke improvement from round one. He finished in a tied for seventh with a total score of 148. 

Nick Westrich finished in a tie for 13th with a 36-hole total of 150. Westrich shot a 75 in both rounds. Three strokes behind Westrich was Ian Barnes shooting 153. Barnes shot a 74 in round one and a 79 in his second round to finish tied 22nd. Sam Parrott finished in a tied for 44th with a total score of 157, shooting an 81 opening day and a 76 in the final round. 

Central Missouri and Arkansas Tech both led the invitational with 26 total brides. Central Missouri also led all teams on par threes and par fives. The tournament champion Henson recorded nine birdies, tying Roger State's Palmowski for the invitational-high. There was only four eagles shot during the preview, one of which belonged to UCM's Hoemann. 

Mules golf will return to action Monday, April 5th, to host the Central Missouri Mule Invitational. The two-day event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at the Mules National Golf Golf Club in Warrensburg, Mo.
