Central Missouri Track and Field Shows Up Big at Home Meet

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Jan. 22, 2021) - Central Missouri Track and Field hosted their first meet of the 2021 season Friday night with the UCM Invitational. The Mules and Jennies welcomed six schools to the Multi and performed well with top finishers and NCAA qualifiers across the board.

Jumps
• Central Missouri had the top finishers in both the men's and women's pole vault. For the Mules Vincent Hobbie hit an NCAA automatic qualifying mark jumping 17-1.75. He's the first to hit the automatic standard in Division II this season. Reagan Ulrich finished in third place jumping a personal-best 16-10 which vaults him into seventh all-time at UCM and is an NCAA provisional qualifier. Jack Hodge also bettered his season-best jumping 15-4.25 and placing ninth.
• For the Jennies, Madi Wulfekotter and Cassie Jennings tied for first jumping 12-10. 
• Cam Holloman was the top finisher for the Jennies in the long jump. She jumped 17-8.25 for second place. Audrey Fisher was right behind her in third jumping 17-8. Isabella Crespo set a personal-best jumping 16-9.75
• Hannah VanBuskirk started her day winning the high jump clearing 5.7-.75. Alissa Barkalow set a PR clearing 4-11.75.
• Although he needed just three jumps, Jesse Miller won the men's long jump for the Mules. He jumped 23-2.75. Austin Staib set a personal-best jumping 21-8.75. 
• The long jump was just the start of Miller's day. He also won the high jump clearing 6-9.75, an NCAA provisional qualifier. Cade Conley finished second jumping 6-4 and Garrett Francis was fourth at 6-2.

Throws
• The Jennies swept the two throwing events. Ashlan Burton was the winner of the shot put throwing 50-10.25. Alisha Straws had a big personal-best throwing 48-5.5 and finishing second. That throw has her fourth all-time at UCM.
• In the weight throw, Rachel Molloy won for the second straight meet. She threw 55-10.5. Baylie Bellin took sixth in the event throwing 45-9.75.
• Addison Snowball doubled up UCM shot put winners. He threw 55-0.75. Snowball also took fourth in the weight throw throwing 54-5.25 and was UCM's top finisher. 
• UCM also had place finishers 6-8. Justin Danner took sixth throwing 47-8, Owen Staab was seventh at 49-2.25 and Ruben Varnado eighth with a mark of 46-11.5. 

Sprints/Hurdles
• Hannah VanBuskirk followed up her win in the high jump by winning the 60m hurdles. She ran a personal-best 8.76 which puts her 10th all-time at Central Missouri. Kayla Goodwin finished fourth (8.96) and Laia Gonzalez fifth (9.00). Gonzalez was also third in the 400m running 60.75.
• Cameron Holloman was the Jennies top finisher in the 60m dash. SHe set a personal-best running 7.88.
• Grace Wormek finished in second place for the Jennies in the 200m dash. She ran 26.64.
• UCM took second and third in the women's 600 yard run. Hope Thiel was second running 1:29.05 and Alex Foote right behind her in third finishing in 1:29.89.
• For the Mules, Andrew Paster had a personal-best in the 60m hurdles and took second place in 8.47 seconds. Brett Shaffer was third in 8.48. Shaffer was also the Mules top finisher in the 600 yard run taking sixth in 1:16.27.
• Antonio Lay was UCM's top short sprinter. He ran 7.00 in the finals to finish third in the 60m dash. Kyzer Ramey was ninth in 7.07.
• Johnnie Hayes led the Mules in the 200m finishing 14th and running 25.70.
• Paul Lanigan set a new personal-best in the 400m. He was sixth running 53.65.

Distance
• UCM went 1-3 in the 800m run. Denzel Kiptoo won the race in 2:01.61, his first time racing that distance. Alex Kirk (2:01.84) and Dillon Seckington (2:02.82) finished second and third and set personal-bests.
• Derek Nugent ran a personal-best in the mile. He took second place running 4:29.09. Nick Victor took third in 4:30.56 which was also a personal-best and Zach Adams fifth in 4:31.51.
• Marah Elmore led the Jennies in the 800m. She was second running 2:13.80.
• Cynthia Togom took third place in the mile running 5:14.30. Makenzie Bergman set a PR and finished 10th running 5:27.41. Sami Skibell (5:41.13) and Claire Myers (5:37.69) also ran personal-best times.
• In her first race at UCM, Lilian Busienei won the 3,000m completing the race in 10:40.33.  

Relays
• Two relays finished the evening. The Jennies 4x400m relay team of Alex Foote, Laia Gonzalez, Hannah VanBuskirk and Kayla Goodwin took second place running 4:00.68. The Mules 4x4 team of Garrett Francis, Derek Nugent, Brett Shaffer and Isaak Rasche ran 3:27.19 to finish third.
• In the final event, the distance medley relay, the Jennies A team of Kimberlee Sewester, Grace Wormek, Rylee Adams and Sami Skibell ran 13:45.18 to place third. The Mules raced to a second place finish. The quartet of Dillon Seckington, Paul Lanigan, Jared Mentz and Alex Kirk finished the relay in 11:13.17.

Next up for the Mules and Jennies is the Pittsburg State Invitational next Saturday, Jan. 30.
