Mules Blank Wonder Boys in Series Finale

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Feb. 9, 2020) - Central Missouri Mules Baseball concluded their four-game set with Arkansas Tech Sunday afternoon, winning their third straight over the Wonder Boys, this time in shutout fashion, with a 9-0 win. The win is the Mules fifth of the season as they took the series 3-1 from the Wonder Boys and puts them at 5-2 overall.

How it Happened
• The Mules outhit the Wonder Boys 9-4. They scored in only three of six innings, but scored multiple runs in each of the three innings.
• UCM took advantage of three Wonder Boy errors to score four unearned runs.
• Of the Mules nine, hits, only two went for extra bases.
• The Mules ran the bases well stealing three bases and scored on three sacrifice flies.
• Central Missouri's bullpen threw four shutout innings, allowing just one hit with six strikeouts.
• UCM scored four runs on just two hits in the second inning. With runners on first and second and one one, Brennan vanBreusegen's ground ball to short was fielded cleanly, but dropped at second base leaving everybody safe. Harrison Schnurbusch never stopped running and scored all the way from first with the game's first run.
• With two in scoring position, Scott Wolverton's infield single scored Cole Taylor. UCM then executed a double steal with vanBreusegen taking home for a 3-0 lead.Wolverton then scored the fourth run of the inning on Erik Webb's sacrifice fly.
• An inning later, the Mules again took advantage of the Wonder Boys' poor defense. Michael Sinks singled and Schnurbusch was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Dusty Stroup laid down a sacrifice bunt which was picked up by the pitcher who fired errantly towards third base as everyone was safe. Sinks trotted home as the ball rolled into the outfield. One batter later, Cole Taylor's deep fly to left allowed Schnurbusch to score from third and UCM was on top 6-0.
• Three straight hits to start the sixth brought in to more runs. Stroup and Taylor led off with back-to-back doubles followed by a single by vanBreusegen. VanBreusegen then came to score UCM's ninth run on a sacrifice fly from Alex Madera. 
• Arkansas Tech only had one baserunner reach in the final three innings as the Mules took the series, 3-1.

Mules Stat Leaders
• On the mound, Jonathan Sprinkle pitched five shutout innings striking out six allowing three hits and two walks.
• Coby Seiz and Jacob Beauchamp each tossed a shutout inning and Cole Young threw the final two with three strikeouts. Beauchamp struck out the side in the seventh.
• Cole Taylor was 2-2 with a double, two runs and two RBI.
• Michael Sinks also picked up two hits and scored a run.
• Harrison Schnurbusch and Brennan vanBreusegen each scored a pair of runs.

For the Wonder Boys
• Zack Strickland lasted just two innings allowing six runs, two earned with three walks and four hits. Shelby Quiggins threw four innings in relief giving up three runs. Shane Scott tossed clean seventh and eighth innings.
• Stormy Taylor was 1-4 with a double.

News and Notes
• Scott Wolverton's single was his first as a Mule.
• In Jacob Beauchamp's UCM debut, he struckout the side in order.
• Central Missouri was 6-12 in the game with runners on base while ATU went 0-10.
• For the series, Michael Sinks had seven hits in 15 at bats.
• Mule pitchers struck out 37 in the four games and had a 1.59 ERA.
• For the first time this season, Erik Webb was held without a hit.
