WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Feb. 15, 2020) - Central Missouri Mules Baseball played their first of two doubleheaders with the University of Mary Saturday afternoon. After winning game one in walk-off fashion 5-4, the Mules were downed in the second 6-1.

Game 1 - Central Missouri 5, Mary 4 (8 Innings)
How it Happened
• Central Missouri scored in three of the final five innings as they pounded out 10 hits to the Marauders four.
• The Mules played another clean defensive game while Mary committed three errors.
• UCM left seven men on base in the game and the Marauders six.
• Mules pitchers struck out 12 batters, but also walked seven.
• Picking things up in the third, the Mules got the first two on in the inning thanks to a hit and an error. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners over and Alex Madera's sacrifice fly scored Brennan vanBreusegen with the game's first run.
• An inning later, the Mules again took advantage of the Marauder's defensive miscues scoring an unearned run as Dusty Stroup scored on a comebacker to the pitcher to go up 2-0.
• UCM added two more in the fifth. Josh Schumacher led off with a triple to right center and scored on Madera's single. After a fielder's choice swapped Madera for Erik Webb, Webb scored to make it 4-0 on a two-out single from Stroup.
• The first five innings were all thrown by Mason Green. UCM went to the bullpen in the sixth and they immediately ran into trouble. Two walks and a double loaded the bases with one out for the Marauders. They scored a run on a passed ball before a strikeout left two on with two outs. On a 3-2 pitch, Jaxon Kostka lifted one over the wall in left center for a three-run shot to tie the game at four.
• The Mules put runners on in the sixth and seventh but couldn't score. Evan Rathburn, who got the final out for UCM in the seventh pitched a perfect eighth. Cole Taylor then laced a one-out triple and Brennan vanBreusegen won it with a single to left.

Mules Stat Leaders
• It was another strong start for Mason Green who didn't allow a run and just two hits in five innings with seven strikeouts.
• Evan Rathburn got the win throwing 1.1 perfect innings with two strikeouts.
• Alex Madera finished 2-3 with two RBI.
• Dusty Stroup, Cole Taylor and Brennan vanBreusegen were all 2-4 with a run scored.
• Erik Webb had a hit and stole a base.

For the Marauders
• Jaxon Kostka had the biggest hit, a three-run home run and finished 1-3 with three RBI.
• Spencer Gillund reached base with three walks.
• Jonathan Draheim started and went the first seven innings allowing four runs, three earned on seven hits with three strikeouts.
• Liam Sommers threw 2.2 innings out of the bullpen and gave up thee game-winning run on three hits.

Game Two - Mary 6, Central Missouri 1 (7 Innings)
How it Happened
• The Mules offense struggled to get their footing with just five hits, four of them singles.
• Mary collected seven hits and reached on an errors and five walks.
• UCM pitcher's struck out eight batters.
• No scoring in the first three innings and only one runner reached base.
• Mary got on the board first with a run in the third on a two-out RBI single. A walk lead-off the inning and came around to score the first run.
• UCM got the run right back a half-inning later with a sacrifice fly from Michael Sinks to score Alex Madera who singled to lead off the home half of the fourth.
• That was all the scoring for UCM. Mary continued to tack on in the fifth, sixth and seventh. A double-steal in the fifth made it a 2-1 game and a leadoff homerun gave the Marauders a 3-1 lead after six.
• The Marauders put the game out of reach with three in the seventh. With two outs and the bases loaded, catcher's interference brought in a run. One batter later, a two-RBI single made it 6-1.
• UCM got a runner on in the seventh, but he was left stranded as the Maruaders took game two, 6-1. 

Mules Stat Leaders
• Jordan Fowler started and allowed two runs on three hits in five innigns with six strikeouts.
• Alex Madera was 1-3 with a run scored.
• Michael Sinks drove in the only Mules run of the game.
• UCM stole three bases, getting one from Madera, Cole Taylor and Brennan vanBreusegen.

News and Notes
• Mule pitchers struck out 20 batters in the doubleheader but also walked 12.
• The Mules gave up six two-out RBI while scoring two themselves.
• Neither team hit well with runners on base. UCM was 4-23 while Mary was 5-29.
• Mason Green is yet to allow and earned run in three starts this season. He is also yet to earn a win.
• In the two games, UCM got the leadoff hitter on just three times in 15 innings while the Marauders put the leadoff man on seven times.
• Alex Madera, Dusty Stroup, Cole Taylor and Brennan vanBreusegen all picked up three hits.
