VanBuskirk's PR leads UCM on Day One at Doane

CRETE, Neb. (Dec. 4, 2020) - Central Missouri multi-event athletes got the season started on the right foot at the 2020 Doane College Happy Holiday Multi Meet. Both the Mules and Jennies sent four athletes to compete in the heptathlon and pentathlon. The only meet UCMTF is entered in this calendar year.

The Jennies had a first and second place finish in the pentathlon with Hannah VanBuskirk winning the meet. She scored 3844 points, a new personal best by 140 points and moved into sixth all-time at UCM. VanBuskirk came in first or second in all five events winning the high jump by clearing 5-8.5, matching a lifetime best in the event. She also set personal-bests running 8.89 in the 60m hurdles, throwing 33-6.75 in the shot put, jumping 18-5 in the long jump and set an indoor PR in the 800m running 2:26.96.

Freshman Kayla Goodwin came in second place in her UCM debut. Goodwin won four of the five events and scored 3769 points which put her in the UCM top-10. Goodwin not only entered the UCM top-10 in the pentathlon, she also matched the 10th fastest time in the 60m hurdles winning the event in 8.77 and jumped 18-7.75 which is ninth all-time. Goodwin won the shot put throwing 35-8.5 and the 800m running 2:25.85. She was second in the high jump clearing 5-2.5.

Both VanBuskirk and Goodwin's pentathlon scores would have put them in the top-three in Division II last season.

Lauren Nelson came in fourth place scoring 3040 and Libby Brown was sixth totaling 2943. It was Brown's first career pentathlon as well. Nelson had a pair of third place finishes in the shot put throwing 31-10.25 and the high jump clearing 5-1.25. Brown was third running 2:33.96 for 800m and fourth in the 60mh (9.34) and long jump (16-8.5).

The Mules competed in four of seven heptathlon events. Trey Miller won all four and leads having scored 3197 points. Miller ran 7.03 for 60m, jumped 6-7 in the high jump and 23-11 in the long jump and set a personal-best in the shot put throwing 40-7.5. 

Sitting in second place with 2866 points is Garrett Francis. Francis set personal-bests jumping 22-1.5 for the long and 6-6 for the high, finishing second in both of those events. He also matched a PR running 7.34 in the 60m dash. 

In fourth place is Trent Davis and Calaway McQueeny is seventh. Davis has scored 2687 points thus far and McQueeny 2553. Davis was very consistent placing fifth in all five events. He set indoor PR's jumpin 21-4.75 in the long jump and throwing 37-5 in the shot. McQueeny had the third farthest shot put throw with a mark of 38-5. 

Tomorrow will see the men complete the final three events of the heptathlon the 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1,000m run.
