Janvrin Selected in 14th Round of MLB Draft

CARY, N.C. (June 5, 2019) - It was an emotional morning for Mules All-American Mason Janvrin. With the Mules elimination game against Ashland pushed up to a 10 a.m. start Wednesday, Janvrin learned in the seventh inning that he has been selected by the Baltimore Orioles with the first pick in the 14th round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

Janvrin, a junior from Warrensburg, Mo. leads all of collegiate baseball, Divisions I, II, and III with 112hits. He is a Second-Team ABCA All-American outfielder, as well as an All-Region selection by the ABCA, D2CCA and NCBWA. He made the First Team All-MIAA squad and earned his second Gold Glove award this season.

"It's hard to not be thinking that during the game, but I tried my best focus on taking at bats and getting my prep-steps in the outfield," Janvrin said after the game. "I found out in the bottom of the eighth inning as I was in the hole."

Janvrin is hitting .424 this season with a .469 on-base percentage and .564 slugging percentage. He's set career-bests with 14 doubles, four triples, five home runs and 51 runs batted in. He's stolen 36 bases and his 112 hits are a new single-season Mules record.

He becomes the 34th Mule selected in the MLB draft and the first since Grant Gavin and Lucas Williams were each selected in 2016. Those three make up the three Mules drafted under Head Coach Kyle Crookes. He is the first to be drafted in the top-15 rounds since Bridger Hunt was taken in the ninth round in 2006 and the 14th in Mules history taken in the top-15.

"It was just all your hard work coming together in one moment," Janvrin added. "The happiness obviously, relief, that sort of thing."

In addition to his on-field accolades, Janvrin has been a terrific student, graduating in three years with a 4.0 in Occupational Safety. He's earned the MIAA Academic Excellence Award each year at UCM and was the 2019 Elite 90 Award winner for Division II Baseball, as the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at the championship final. He was also named the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-American for Baseball.

Janvrin's days with the Mules aren't finished just yet. He and the Mules have another game tomorrow night at 7 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. CT against Colorado Mesa in the national semifinals.
