WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Feb. 17, 2017) – Central Missouri competed in their final meet before the MIAA Indoor Championships Friday evening at the UCM Classic. Both the Mules and Jennies won a number of events and set some personal-bests in the process.
Sprints
The biggest winner of the day went to Kailey Fuchs. She set a new Central Missouri record in the 600 yard run, crossing the line in 1:22.43, which also ties the UCM Multipurpose Building record. Fuchs broke a six year old record, set by UCM Hall of Famer Lindsay Lettow in 2011, by over a full second.
The Jennies had two top-three finishers in the 60m hurdles. Alliah McClendon was the winner by one-one-hundredth of a second, running 8.64. Katie Cassidy was third in 9.40, but ran a 9.23 in the preliminary round. Alyssa Carlton was fourth running 9.87. She also ran faster in the preliminary round, crossing the line in 9.58.
Cassidy also finished in second place in the 60m dash, running a personal-best 7.86. Kacey Kohlhof took third place in 7.94.
Andrew Bodicky had a big personal-best in the high hurdles for the Mules. He took third place in 8.40. Devin Cornelius finished fourth in 8.53.
Brendan Black was the Mules top finisher in the 60m dash. He crossed the line in 7.10 seconds and finished 11th overall.
In the 400m dash, Laia Gonzalez was the Jennies top finisher. She took second place in 1:00.21.
James Willis also took second place running the 400m dash for the Mules. He set a big personal-best running 50.94. Corbin Lowe finished fourth in 51.71.
Sterling Spicer took fifth in the 600 yard run for the Mules, running 1:17.86
Jyl Stewart was the Jens top finisher in the 200m dash, crossing the line in 22.46 to place second. Blake Johnson finished third in the event for the Mules running a personal-best 22.63
Jumps
Central Missouri had a pair of winners in the pole vault in Brittany Kallenberger and Cole Phillips. Kallenberger jumped 12-4 while Phillips cleared 17-0.75. Colton Bray took second place for the Mules in the pole vault, he set a new personal-best jumping 15-10. Also finishing second was Kaylee VanBlarcum, jumping 11-10.
Kallenberger also won the women's high jump. She made it over the 5-6 bar. For the Mules, Ty Garretson was their top finisher in the event, jumping a personal-best 6-5 to finish fourth.
The Jennies had the top-three finishers in the high jump. Alyssa Carlton and Hannah VanBuskirk each jumped 5-3.75 to finish second and third.
Brent Alumbaugh was the winner in the men's long jump. He set a big personal-best jumping 22-8.5. Tyson Holcombe took fourth with a mark of 21-2.5.
Holcombe then finished fifth in the triple jump with a 43-00.25 jump. Brad Jenkins was UCM's top finisher in third place jumping 44-5.5.
Shay Babcock was the Jennies top finisher in the long and triple jump. She set a personal-best in the long jump with a mark of 15-8.75. She also jumped 34-5.75 in the triple jump and took third in both events.
Throws
Central Missouri also had a pair of winners in the weight throw. Amy Dorge took the win for the Jennies with a throw of 55-11.25. Ben Hanson was the winner for the Mules throwing 62-2.25. Jace Kaleikau set a new personal-best and finished third, throwing 60-6.5 to move into eighth place all-time at UCM.
Amy Dorge also had a good day with the shot put, throwing 43-8 to finish second. The Mules Jacob Mahin was also in second place throwing 58-2.5. Dalton Lewallen was third with a 53-1.75 throw and Nathan Cummings set a PR throwing 52-3.75 to finish fourth.
Distance
Nicole Svendsen ran a personal-best and won the 3,000m in 10:53.86. UCM went 1-5 in the race. Amy Marx took second (10:59.40), Jami Clay third (11:07.78), Yesenia Gomez fourth (11:19.94), Riley Dovel fifth (11:22.79).
The Mules also won the 3,000m run with Justin Howard taking first place in 9:10.41. Ian Frazier was third in 9:10.56 and Ben Sporleder ran a personal-best 9:17.79 to place sixth.
Courtney Rogers and Maria Wendell each ran personal-best times in the mile. Rogers took second place in 5:31.05 and Wendell was right behind her in third, running 5:36.28.
Chris Basinski was the only Mule to compete in the event. He ran 5:00.04 to finish eighth.
In the 800m run, Morgan Van Harn was the winner in 2:28.42. Rachel Boone ran a 2:34.00 to place third.
Wezley Turner and Kenny Froebe went back-to-back in the 800m. Turner ran a 2:03.16 to finish 4th and Froebe a 2:03.24 to place fifth.
Arkansas Qualifier
Central Missouri sent the men's 4x400m relay team to University of Arkansas for the Arkansas Qualifier. The Mules ran a season-best time, but unfortunately were disqualified for running inside lane one.
Next up for UCM Track and Field is the MIAA Conference Championships. The three day meet takes place Friday-Sunday, Feb. 24-26 in Joplin, Mo., hosted by Missouri Southern.
