SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Nov. 5, 2016) -
Jana Palmowski earned an All-Region finish for Central Missouri placing 14th at the NCAA Central Region Championships. She helped the Jennies to an 11th place finish at the meet, their highest since 2012. Palmowski ran a personal-best 6K time of 21:25.76 to finish 14th and was the fifth finisher out of the MIAA in a field of 211. Following the meet, she was named to the USTFCCCA All-Region Team.
Ian Frazier was the Mules top finisher in the 10K race. He set a new personal-best running 32:12.95 to finish 29th overall in the field of 170. The Mules finished 14th as a team.
All five of the Jennies top-five finishers ran personal-best times.
Nicole Svendsen was the second Jennie to cross the line in 22:21.56. Running in her first-ever NCAA race,
Courtney Rogers placed 67th in 22:34.83. This was also the first NCAA race for
Jami Clay, she ran 22:57.74 to finish 90th and
Yesenia Gomez completed the scoring for UCM finishing 104th and running 23:14.53.
For senior
Christine Wigginton, this was her first NCAA race after being a part of UCM Cross Country since 2012. She ran 24:09.76 and finished 138th.
Stephanie Boan also raced for the Jennies, finishing 115th in 23:32.73.
The University of Mary was the overall team winner scoring 60 points. They had the top individual in Alexis Zeis who ran 19:43.84. Southwest Baptist and Fort Hays State finished in third and fourth place and will head to the national meet to represent the MIAA.Â
The top three for the Mules finished just like they did at the MIAA Championships two weeks ago.
Ty Hughes and
Justin Howard followed Frazier. Hughes ran 32:40.92 to finished in 47th place and Howard placed 72nd in 33:07.90.
Kenny Froebe (33:35.40, 101st) and
Ben Sporleder 33:41.61 (107th) rounded out the scoring for the Mules. The time was a personal-best for Sporleder who ran at this race last year as a freshman.
Competing in their first regional meet were
Chris Basinski and
Austin Larsen. Basinski was the sixth Mule to cross the line in 34:09.92 for 122nd place and Larsen finished shortly behind in 127th place, running 34:20.65.
Host school Augustana won the meet scoring 65 points, just three points ahead of the MIAA's Missouri Southern. The Lions' Vincent Kiprop won the meet with a time of 29:33.61. The top four team finishers qualified for the national meet meaning Missouri Southern and third-place Northwest Missouri will represent the MIAA. Â
