Box Score KEARNEY, Neb. (Nov. 18, 2016) – No. 16 Central Missouri Jennies Volleyball got knocked out of the MIAA Tournament in the semifinal round to No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney. The Jennies won the opening set, 30-28, but fell in the final three 20-25, 21-25, 13-15. The loss gives the Jennies a 23-10 record for the 2016 season.
The Lopers hit nearly .300 for the match, connecting on a .290 attack percentage to UCM's .190. Although the Jennies landed five service aces, three from
Abby Skrastins, they committed seven service errors and were outblocked 8-6.
Kylie Hohlen led three four Jennies with double-digit kills with 14.
Maddie Jones picked up 13,
Kasey Hohlen 11 and
Molly Lawrence 10.
Kourtney Thompson filled out the stat sheet with 45 assists, three kills and 21 digs.
Mackenzie Harding led the Jens with four blocks and
Carly Offerdahl secured 24 digs.
Central Missouri took a 1-0 lead in the match after a wild 30-28 opening set. The Jennies scored the first three points of the set, but it didn't take long for Nebraska-Kearney to tie things at seven. Back-and-forth they went until UNK came to set point at 24-22. The Jens didn't quit, getting kills from Jones and
Kasey Hohlen to tie. After falling to set point again, 28-27,
Kylie Hohlen knocked three straight kills to give the Jennies the 30-28 win.
The Jennies looked to keep the momentum rolling in set two, going up by five early in the set, 7-2. Nebraska-Kearney used a 4-0 run to take their first lead, 14-13, and a 5-1 run to go ahead 20-16 put the set away.
Nebraska-Kearney took an early lead in the third set they never gave up. They went up five, 16-11 midway through the frame, but the Jennies again didn't quit, fighting back to get to within one, 17-16 on another
Kylie Hohlen kill. But UNK was able to withstand the storm with the lead intact, going on to take the set, 25-21.
Central Missouri scored the first two points of set four on a Loper service error and
Kasey Hohlen service ace, but it was all Lopers after that. They went on a 10-1 to go head by seven, 10-3 and never looked back, winning the set and the match, 25-13.
Three Lopers landed more than 10 kills, led by Kendall Schroer with a game-high 22. Annie Wolfe scored 17 kills to go along with nine digs and six blocks. Setter Lindsey Smith handed out 54 assists and Ellie McDonnell dug out 28 Jennie attacks.
