ROLLA, Mo. (Oct. 8, 2016) – In their final tune up before the MIAA Championships, the Mules and Jennies took second place at the Missouri S&T Jackling Jock Classic.
Jana Palmowski led the Jennies for the 6K race while Ty Hughes paced the men's 8K.
Three of the Mule five scorers set personal-bests. Hughes became the fourth different Mule to lead UCM scoring in four races this season. He took 11th place in 26:10.23. Ben Sporleder and Kenny Froebe were right behind him in 12th and 13th place. Sporleder ran a PR 26:13.99 and Froebe ran 26:27.33. Isaac Calvert and Austin Larsen round out the UCM scoring and set new personal-bests. Calvert finished in the top-20 in 16th place running 26:34.99 and Larsen crossed the line in 27:00.49 to place 22nd.
All five Jennies scorers placed in the top-15 and set personal-bests over the 6K course. The duo of Palmowski and Nicole Svendsen placed 1-2 for UCM for the fourth straight race. Palmowski ran 22:22.92 to place fourth and Svendsen ran 22:57.94 and placed eighth, in nearly a 40 second personal-best. Amy Marx was the third Jennie in the top-10, placing 10th in 23:19.62.
Yesenia Gomez and Jami Clay completed the scoring for UCM, finishing back-to-back in 14th and 15th place. Gomez ran a 23:37.26 and Clay crossed the line in 23:43.54.
MIAA foes Missouri Southern were the team champions in both the men's and women's races. The Lions went 1-5 on the men's side and finished 54 points ahead of the Mules. The Jennies were 15 points back of MSSU scoring 51 points.
Cody Berry was the men's winner in 25:19.46 and Laura Tarantino of Truman State won the women's race in 22:06.47.
Central Missouri will compete in the MIAA Championships in two weeks, Saturday Oct. 22. The meet is hosted by Lindenwood and will be held in Elsah, Ill. at the Trails of Principia College.
