LAWRENCE, Kan. (Oct. 1, 2016) - Central Missouri Cross Country was back in action this morning for the first time in two weeks. UCM competed against a mix of Division I and II schools at the Kansas Rim Rock Classic, hosted by the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan.
The Jennies took fourth place out of nine teams and were the top non-Division I school out of five. The Mules finished sixth out of seven teams, bettering Division I Oral Roberts.
For the third straight meet, the one-two combination of
Jana Palmowski and
Nicole Svendsen led the Jennies. Palmowski was 29th overall in 22:47.6 and was the top D-II finisher for the 6K course. Svendsen ran a personal-best 23:37.0 and finished 38th. A trio of sophomores rounded out the top-five for UCM.
Jami Clay ran her first ever 6K at UCM and finished 40th in 23:47.1.
Amy Marx also ran a PR in 24:10.9 to finish 45th and
Stephanie Boan completed the scoring in 49th place and 24:34.5.
As consistent as the top of the Jennies have been,
Ben Sporleder becomes the third different Mule to lead the pack in as many races. He completed the 8K course in 26:20.2 to come in 41st place. The Mules ran tight with their top six all finishing within a minute of each other. Following Sporleder was
Justin Howard in 51st place in 26:43.
Ian Frazier and
Kenny Froebe finished back-to-back in 55th and 56th place running 26:55.4 and 27:02.6, respectively.
Isaac Calvert rounded out the top five in 61st place in 27:13.3.
Central Missouri has one more meet before the conference championships. They'll run again next week, Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Missouri S&T Jackling Jocks Classic.
