FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Mules Wrestling team competed on day one of the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Central Missouri opened the tournament with a 47-0 loss to No. 9 Lake Erie College. The Mules had to forfeit the 125 weight class and began the dual down 6-0. Two loses by fall from
Daide Agnew and
Caleb Crabtree, at 133 and 141 pounds respectively, put the Mules in an early 18-0 hole. At 149 pounds,
Steffon Fassett lost by tech fall to to Nick Boggs to increase the deficit to 23-0.
Tyler Horton lost by tech fall at the hands of No. 5 Christian Baughman at 157 pounds, which put the Mules down 28-0. At 165 pounds,
Allan Person lost by major decision to No. 6 Nick Vandermeer. Fourth-ranked
Archie Williams lost by decision to Nick Vandermeer in the 174 pound bout, which increased Lake Erie's lead to 35-0.
Ty Loethen competed at 184 pounds and lost by decision to Tyler Hughes. At 197 pounds,
Robert Schneider fell to Evan Rosborough in a second period pin. In the heavyweight class,
Nick Lovejoy lost a close 3-2 decision to No. 8 Evan Loughman which capped off Lake Erie's 47-0 victory.

In their second dual of the day, the Mules fell to No. 18 Newberry 42-3. Once again the Mules had to forfeit the 125 weight class and were down 6-0 early on. Agnew lost by tech fall to Jordan Simpson at 133 to increase the deficit to 11-0. Crabtree fell to Nick Lankford in a 10-5 decision at 141 pounds. At 149 pounds, Fassett dropped a close 7-5 decision to Zach Dobbins. Horton competed at 157 once again in the second dual, but fell to Alex Rice by major decision. Person fell by pin to Nick Young in the first period at 165, which put the Mules down 27-0. At 174, Williams earned UCM's first dual victory of the day after a back-and-forth 13-11 decision victory over Dennis Flores to cut the Newberry lead to 27-3. Newberry answered back at 184 pounds when third-ranked Huston Evans scored a first period pin over Loethen. Schneider lost a 10-5 decision to Cody Brundage at 197 pounds. In the Mules' final match of the day, Lovejoy lost by pin in the first period to Patton Gossett to end the dual.

In their final dual of the day, the Mules faced McKendree where they fell 28-15. The Mules forfeited the 125 pound slot and trailed early 6-0. Agnew lost by decision to Nick Lukanich which put the Mules down 9-0. Crabtree fell by major decision at 141 to Darren Wynn. Fassett and Horton both lost by decisions to put UCM in a 20-0 hole. Person got the Mules on the board with a 9-2 decision victory over Aaron Batchelder to cut the lead to 20-3. John Filipek of McKendree answered back with a major decision victory over Williams at 174 pounds. Loethen and Schneider both recorded wins by pin at 184 and 197 pounds respectively to cut the lead to 24-15. Lovejoy lost the heavyweight bout in a major decision to Coltyn Pease to make the final score 28-15.
The Mules are back in action Jan. 14 at home where they will open up MIAA action against Newman at 7 p.m.
