ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- Mules Wrestling falls to No. 10 Lindenwood 36-9 on the road Wednesday evening.
The Mules grabbed an early 6-0 lead when
Erick Vargas pinned No. 7 Danny Swan in 4:41 at 125 pounds in Vargas' debut for the Mules.
The Lions answered back when Hunter Haralson, ranked fourth nationally at 133 pounds, pinned
Daide Agnew in 2:12 to tie the match at six.
Caleb Crabtree fell in a 5-0 decision to Jared Mestas, which gave Lindenwood at 9-6 advantage.
The Lions pulled off a pair of pins over
Steffon Fassett and
Zane Heiter at 149 and 157 pounds
respectively to run out to a 21-6 lead.
At 165 pounds,
Allan Person lost a 7-2 decision to Kyle Jolas, which increased the Lindenwood lead to 24-6. The Mules forfeited the 174 pound slot which put the match out of reach with the Lions leading 30-6.
Archie Williams gave the Mules their second victory of the night earning a 5-3 decision at 184 pounds over Batchka Zulkhuu to cut the Lindenwood lead to 30-9.
The Lions ended the dual with a pair of decision victories over
Robert Schneider, 5-2, at 197 and
Nick Lovejoy, 3-2, at 285 to make the final 36-9.
The loss drops the Mules to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the MIAA. The Mules will be back in action tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. as they travel to Lebanon, Illinois to take on No. 19 McKendree. The Mules lost to McKendree 28-15 earlier this season at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals.
