Sioux Falls, S.D. – The No. 12 Central Missouri Mules capped its Championship run at the NCAA-II Championships on Saturday, March 14, at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. No. 4
Damon Ashworth took national runner-up in the 184 bracket, and
James Wright took eighth place in the 141. Both Ashworth and Wright secured All-American honors.
No. 4 Ashworth took on McKendres's Darion Johnson, with whom he has a record of 1-1 on the season. Ashworth was the national runner-up after Johnson had four takedowns and 1 nearfall to get a 17-2 tech fall (7:00). Ashworth ended his final season with the Mules going 25-3.
No. 6 Wright started off the day with his bout against Colton Hush of Minnesota State. Hush took the bout in an 8-5 decision. Wright went to compete in the seventh-place match against Ethan Hardy of Glenville State, who defeated him by a 7-1 decision. The All-American took eighth place in the bracket to close out his junior season, going 46-22.
The Mules capped their season with a 9-6 record and 3-2 in MIAA Conference play. UCM also had two regional champions,
Torin Forsyth and
James Wright. This was the most qualifiers for Central Missouri since 2009.
