BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The Mules and Jennies cross country teams opened their season Saturday morning at the Southwest Baptist Invitation. The Mules tallied 50 points to take second place while the Jennies came in third.
The Mules were paced by sophomore
Ian Frazier, who placed 8th with a time of 21:08 in the 6400 meter race.Senior
Michael Gawlick also finished in the top 10 with a 10th place finish and a time of 21:22. Junior
Michael Frazier finished 14th with a time of 21:33, junior J.P. Espinoza, sophomore
Ty Hughes, and sophomore
Justin Howard finished 16th, 17th, and 18th respectively and sophomore
Kenny Froebe finished 21st to round out the top seven for the Mules.
UCM totaled 50 points for the second place finish. Host school Southwest Baptist finished first in the team scoring with 26 points.
The Jennies were led by freshman
Stephanie Boan who placed 11th and finished the 5k race in 20:15. Freshman
Alyx Flippin finished second for the Jennies as she placed 16th with a time of 20:41. Senior
Coleen Grone and freshman
Amy Marx came in right behind Flippin finishing 17th and 18th respectively. Sophomore
Nicole Svendsen rounded out the top five for the Jens with a 20th place finish and a time of 21:05.
UCM scored 77 points to finish third in the seven team field. Southwest Baptist won the women's race with 28 points.
The Mules and Jennies will be in action next September 19th in Joplin, Missouri at the Missouri Southern Stampede.
