Box Score 2 | Season Statistics (HTML)EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Jennies softball team was unable to protect a four-run lead in the second game of a doubleheader at No. 5 Emporia State, falling 8-7 after dropping the opener, 8-3.
With the losses, the Jennies (25-19, 12-10 MIAA) finish the regular season with a 10-9 road record.
In game one, Emporia State scored the game's first run in the bottom of the second following an RBI single by Kaitlyn Caston.
UCM's bats came alive in the top of the fourth, scoring three times off of Caston, two runs coming via a homerun by
Lauren Mabe, her ninth this season.
Emporia State responded with three of its own in the home half of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. They added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the sixth to seal the 8-3 victory.
Jennies starter
Jakki Prater took the loss in game one to fall to 14-10 on the season. Mabe went 3-for-3 with a homerun and two RBI.
In game two, the Jennies scored first in the top of the fourth on a two-out RBI single by Mabe.

In the Jennies' final at-bat in the top of the seventh, the team put a six-spot on the board, sending 10 batters to the plate. With the bases loaded and no outs,
Lindsey Dawson singled home two runs to tie the game at 3-3.
Alex Groeger then delivered an RBI single to center, capped off by a bases-clearing double by pinch-hitter
Amanda Nally to make it a 7-3 game.
However, the Lady Hornets loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh to spark the comeback. Shockley hit a batter to bring home the first run, then recorded the second out of the inning with a popout to the shortstop.
The next three batters would single to close out the game. A two-run single by Tricia Vogel cut the Jennies' lead to 7-6. Back-to-back hits by Andrea Piezuch and Caston completed the comeback victory for Emporia State.
Ali Jo Rogers, Dawson and Groeger each collected two hits and combined for three RBI in game two.
Shockley (10-3) was tagged with the loss, yielding seven hits on eight runs (five earned). She issued two walks and tallied three strikeouts.
UCM will conclude its regular season schedule with an eight-game homestand beginning on Friday, April 25 against Missouri Southern and culminating with an April 26 doubleheader against Pittsburg State.
