Box Score 2 | Season Statistics (HTML)TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Jennies softball team split a doubleheader against Washburn, winning 7-3 in game one and falling, 7-6 in game two at the WU Softball Complex.
UCM (20-14, 8-6 MIAA) freshman
Lauren Mabe went 3-for-7 with three homeruns, six RBI's and three runs scored in both games.
In game one, senior
Braylyn Bivens led off with a solo homerun to left to spot the Jennies with a 1-0 lead. After
Alex Groeger walked and advanced to third,
Jakki Prater plated her on a sacrifice fly to put the second run on the board for UCM.
Washburn responded with two of its own in the home half with a pair of RBI single, evening the game at 1-1.
Three more runs came across for the Jennies in the top of the third thanks to an RBI single by
Lindsey Dawson and a two-run homerun by Mabe.
The lead was cut to 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Katie Schroeder, but the Jennies got one in the sixth and another run in the seventh via a solo homerun off the bat of
Jessica Neely to seal a 7-3 win.
Prater got the win to improve to 13-6 on the season. She threw a complete game, her fifth this season, and allowed nine hits on three runs with four walks and a strikeout.
In game two, Central Missouri jumped out in front early on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch by Neely.
Washburn tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second on an RBI double by Haylee Marsteller.
The Jennies came away with three runs in the top of the third when Mabe connected on her second homerun of the afternoon, this one a three-run shot.
The Ichabods responded with four runs on five hits in the bottom of the third, sending nine batters to the plate to take a 5-4 lead.
Leading off the top of the fifth inning, Mabe sent her second homerun of game two over the fence to knot the game at 5-5. After Neely reached base on a third strike wild pitch and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, pinch-hitter
Alex Leonhart singled up the middle, plating the go-ahead run to make it 6-5.
Washburn tied the game at 6-6 in the home half of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Bre Hixon and scored the eventual game-winning run on a solo shot from Lauren Thimmesch.
Mabe finished game two with two homeruns, four RBI's and two runs scored. The Jennies stranded 10 baserunners in game two.
UCM will travel to Lincoln to battle the Blue Tigers in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, April 4.
