TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- The Central Missouri Mules tallied three runs in the final two innings to beat Northeastern State 8-5 in the third game of their MIAA series on Friday afternoon at Rousey Field.
UCM (8-6, 5-2 MIAA) jumped on top 5-0 early on scoring two runs in the first and three in the third.
Brad Wilson belted a two-run home run to left in the first inning, then singled home another run in the second to make it 3-0.
Tony Sandifer also had a two-run single in the frame to give UCM the early lead.
The lead stood until the seventh when the RiverHawks (4-8, 1-6 MIAA) rallied to tie the game. Northeastern State scored all five runs with two outs in the frame. Bryce Davenport singled home the first run. Kyle Singleton singled home a run and Cody Begovich doubled in another. David Weber singled home the tying run before
Zach Davis came on in relief to get the final out of the inning.
UCM went back in front with two runs in the top of the eighth. Sandifer singled homee
Trevor Jones and later scored on
Kevin Gratza's sacrifice bunt. Central Missouri added another insurance run in the ninth on Jones' RBI single to make it 8-5.
Davis (2-0) picked up the win for UCM tossing 2.1 innings of no-hit relief to go along with five strikeouts. Starter
Ricky Rivera allowed three runs on four hits in 6.2 innings. He struck out four.
TJ Foster (0-1) took the loss for NSU after giving up two runs on two hits in 1.1 innings of relief.
Wilson and Sandifer each finished with day with three RBI as Wilson went 4-for-5 at the plate and also scored two runs. Jones was 2-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored.
The series wraps up on Saturday with a single nine-inning game schedule for a 12 p.m. first pitch.
