Carly Sojka propels No. 19 Jennies volleyball to sweep of No. 8 Washburn

No. 19 Jennies (15-8, 12-3 MIAA) topped No. 8 Washburn (19-4, 11-4 MIAA) 25-22, 25-22, 25-21, hitting .196 with 41 kills and seven blocks as a team.
 
Washburn tied the Jennies three times early in the first set, but the Jennies kept their lead. After a third tie at 8-8, Central Missouri won six consecutive points to take a 14-8 lead in the set. Washburn later won three in a row, to pull within two points of the Jennies at 21-19, but the Jennies held them at 22 to take the set. Haley Thompson had five kills in the first set, and hit .500 without an attack error. Washburn took an early lead in the second set, but the Jennies caught them at 10-10. Central Missouri eventually strung two points together to take their first lead of the set at 15-13. They did not allow Washburn to take the lead again, winning the second with a kill from Carly Sojka, her second set point of the match. Sojka had six kills in the second. Central Missouri had a lead in the third, when the Ichabods caught them at 10-10, and won three of four points to follow to take a 13-10 lead. The Jennies tied the score quickly, at 14-14. There were five more tie scores to follow, with Central Missouri finally winning three in a row, while holding Washburn at 19. The Jennies took the final two points of the match with a kill from H. Thompson and Sojka. H. Thompson had five kills in the final set, while Sojka had six.
 
Sojka had a team-high 15 kills, with 10 digs and two blocks. It was her eleventh double-double this season. Kourtney Thompson also had a double-double, her tenth of the year, with 31 assists, and 11 digs. H. Thompson finished the match with 11 kill, and hit .400 in the match. She also had a team-high four blocks. Shelby Winkelmann had 14 digs, while Annie Reilly had 26. Winkelmann and Maddie Jones had four kills each in the three set match. Jones also had two blocks.
 
The Jennies will play Northwest Missouri State on Tuesday, followed by a pair of road matches against Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday and Fort Hays State on Sunday.
