This Week
The #5 Central Missouri Jennies continue the season with their second consecutive weekend on the road, as they head to Denver, Colorado for the 2012 Colorado Premier Challenge, hosted by Metro State and Regis Universities. The Jennies enter a tournament field stacked with top-25 talent for the second straight week. UCM faces #9 West Texs A&M and #13 Metro State on the first day of competition, followed by another two potentially ranked opponents on day two.
Last Time Out
The Jennies posted a 3-1 record at the Hemmingway's Island Grill Invitational, hosted by West Florida over the weekend. UCM posted a pair of wins on the opening day of the tournament, including their first victory over a ranked opponent in 2012 with a five-set win against #10 Indianapolis. The Jens followed that up with a sweep against host West Florida.  The #2 Tampa Spartans dealt the UCM their first loss of the season, coming back from a two-set deficit to claim a 3-2 win. In their third five-set match of the tournament, the Jennies finished the weekend with a victory over Lock Haven (Pa.).
All-Tournament Team
A pair of Jennies were named to the Hemmingway's Island Grill Invitational All-Tournament team after their performances over the weekend, in senior hitter Lisa Moore and junior setter Julia Bates. Moore, in her first regular action for UCM, appeared in all 18 sets and averaged 1.89 kills per set with a .236 hitting percentage. The Lee's Summit native set a career-high in kills with 11 against #10 Indianapolis, then increased that mark to 13 kills  the next day against Lock Haven. Moore recorded nine total blocks over the weekend as well.
Bates, a two-time AVCA All-American, averaged 9.44 assists per set while collecting 19 kills and ten total blocks. Against Tampa, Bates posted her first 50-assist performance of the year while recording four kills and a .308 hitting percentage. The junior also came one block away from matching her career high, with five against West Florida.
Jennies in the Polls
Central Missouri held on to their No. 5 rank from the start of the season, in the first regular season version of the AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll. The Jennies tallied a higher number of votes, improving from 642 points to 668. While the Jens moved past last week's No. 3, Cal State San Bernardino, they were also jumped by Southwest Minnesota State, who moves up to No. 3.
The Jennies are the second-highest MIAA squad in the poll, behind #2 Nebraska-Kearney, as the Lopers improved two spots from the last poll. #7 Washburn and Truman (receiving votes) also make appearances in the poll this week.
Concordia-St. Paul holds on to the top spot, earning all 32 first-places votes after going 3-0 during the opening weekend.
The Jennies are the only team in Division II to appear in the AVCA Coaches Poll every week since the poll began in 1986, making the top 25 for 331 consecutive weeks.
In the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll, UCM was ranked second, collecting 131 points and four first-place votes. The Lady Blues took the top spot, earning seven first-place votes, while MIAA newcomers Nebraska-Kearney came in third, also picking up a  pair of first-place votes.

Peniston set a new career high in the match against Lock Haven, going for 22 kills in the five-set victory. She reached double-digit kills against #10 Indianapolis as well, posting 16 kills in the season opener.
First Impressions
In her first weekend of competition as a Jennie, sophomore Aubri Renshaw made a big impact on both offense and defense. Renshaw is currently leading the team with 3.22 kills per set, and has posted a pair of double-doubles so far this year. In the sweep against West Florida, Renshaw recorded 10 kills along with 13 digs. She followed that up with a 26-kill, 11-dig performance against #2 Tampa. Her 26 kills is the highest total in a single match this year in the MIAA.

Monachino, a redshirt freshman from Jacksonville, Fla., is averaging 2.0 digs per set after starting all four matches in Pensacola and appearing in all 18 sets this season. Against Tampa, Monachino posted a career-high 14 digs, reaching double-digits for the first time in her young career. She has also been a force on the service line, dealing out seven aces so far, most on the team.
Meanwhile, true freshman Annie Reilly won the starting libero job during the pre-season, and has also started all four matches for the Jennies this year. Reilly leads the team with an average of 4.0 digs per set, with two 20-dig performances last weekend, against #10 Indianapolis and Lock Haven. Reilly has also helped out on the offensive end, serving up five aces on the year, and recording 21 assists, second-most on the team behind Julia Bates.
Milestone Victory
After picking up three wins over the weekend, Jennies head coach Flip Piontek has tallied 99 career victories, and could reach the 100-win mark this weekend. Piontek, who was the Jennies assistant coach from 1986-2008, has earned 30 or more wins each of his first three seasons at the helm of the program. Piontek will become the fastest coach to 100 victories in Jennies volleyball history.

#10 Metro State
The Roadrunners earned a pair of impressive victories over ranked opponents while competing at the Grand Canyon Invitational in Phoenix last week. Moore, who had appeared in just 44 sets during her first three seasons with the Jennies, has started three matches and played in all 18 sets last week. The right side hitter is averaging 1.89 kills per set with a .236 hitting percentage.  Moore also has nine blocks so far this season. McCormick set a career-high with 12 kills in the loss to Tampa, and reached the 10-kill mark for the first time as a Jennie when she recorded 11 against Indianapolis. The transfer from Division I Arkansas is leading the team in blocks per set, at 1.11, and ranks 7th in the MIAA.
Academic Honors
For the 2011-12 school year, 16 of the 19 Jennies volleyball players were placed on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, accounting for 84% of the total roster. Five Jennies, including returners Julia Bates and Bradye Peniston, were honored as MIAA Scholar-Athletes. The award is given to all student-athletes who are named to their respective All-MIAA Teams while maintaining at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA. Additionally, senior hitter Hillary McCormick earned the MIAA Academic Excellence Award, given to student-athletes who maintain a 4.0 cumulative GPA.
To top it all off, the Central Missouri volleyball program was awarded the AVCA Team Academic Award for their work in the classroom. The Jennies are one of only 69 programs in Division II to earn the award, making up less than 13% of Division II programs nationwide. It marks the ninth consecutive year the Jens have claimed the honor, which is earned by maintaining a 3.3 cumulative GPA throughout the entire team.

Jennies' All-Americans Sarah Dallas and Chris Kalehuawehe were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Overall, UCM has a 36-20 record at the Premier Challenge, and has the most tournaments of any school, including hosts Metro State and Regis. The Jens have claimed the title once, placed second twice, third three times, and have had 13 players named to the All-Tournament Team.
