EDMOND, Okla. - In the second match of a three-match road trip, the #8 Central Missouri Jennies made quick work of the Central Oklahoma Bronchos, 25-8, 25-15, 25-14 on Friday night. Senior hitter
Bradye Peniston led the Jennies attack with a game-high 13 kills.
The Jennies came out of the gate quick, scoring the first six points of the match, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Peniston to put the Jens up 2-0, and a pair of service aces from freshman libero
Annie Reilly. UCM steadily built their lead, and once the Bronchos gave UCM the serve at 16-8, the Jens took a 9-0 run to close out the set. Another pair of service aces were dealt out by freshman
Mikalee Monachino during the rally.
Controlling the pace again, the Jennies posted a .387 hitting percentage in the second set, while recording a match-high 15 kills. The Bronchos kept it close throughout the set, until an 8-2 run highlighted by three kills from junior
Taylor Goodness put the set out of reach.
In the third set, the Jens did not let up, quicking taking a 7-2 lead, with kills from Peniston,
Aubri Renshaw, and
Carly Sojka. Another big run, this time taking eight of the last 12 points, closed out the win. Sojka nearly recorded her fourth double-double of the year, earning nine kills along with nine digs. Junior setter
Julia Bates recorded 27 assists in the win, along with four kills, three digs and three total blocks. Defensively, Reilly led the team with 16 digs.
With the victory, the Jennies improve to 12-3 overall, and stay perfect in MIAA play at 5-0. UCM wraps up their three-game road swing through the southwestern portions of the conference tomorrow afternoon, when they take on Pittsburg State at 4 p.m.
