#8 Jennies volleyball defeat Missouri Southern, 3-0

JOPLIN, Mo. -
The 8th-ranked Central Missouri Jennies kicked off their three-match road trip on the right note, defeating the Missouri Southern Lions in straight sets Thursday night, 25-11, 25-18, 25-11. Sophomore Aubri Renshaw led the Jens' offense with nine kills.

The Jennies attack got off to a slow start in the opening set, resulting in a 7-7 tie after a Missouri Southern service error. At that point, UCM scored the next four points, to trigger an 18-4 run to close out the set in dominant fashion. The Jennies scored on 10 of the Lions' 11 serves, shutting down any possibility of a comeback rally. Missouri Southern also gave up eight attack errors in the first set, including on three of the final five points, to help ptu the game away.

In the second set, Central Missouri took a quick 5-2 lead thanks in part to a pair of kills from freshman Carly Sojka as well as a kill from Bradye Peniston. Missouri Southern was able to keep it close throughout the set however, ultimately tying the set at 18-18 on a service ace that was part of a three-point run. Sophomore hitter Taylor Goodness ended the Lions' rally with a kill to make it 19-18, and the Jennies went on to take the next six points to finish out the set 25-18.

Poised to finished off Missouri Southern in the third set, the Jennies scored on 10 of the first 13 points, as five different players contributed with a kill in the early portions of the set. After winning the serve back at 17-9 with a kill fron Peniston, freshman Mikalee Monachino served up five straight points, including back-to-back kills from Sojka to push the Jennies advantage up to 22-9. Renshaw finished the match off with a kill at match point.

Central Missouri used a balanced attack to take the match, as five Jennies tallied five or more kills in the straight-set match. Along with Renshaw's nine scores, Sojka collected eight kills, Peniston had seven, McCormick six and Goodness earned five. In addition, McCormick, a senior from Overland Park, Kan., set a career high with her .600 hitting percentage (6-0-10). Freshman libero Annie Reilly led the defense with 12 digs. Junior setter Julia Bates collected 22 assists and a pair of service aces in the win.

In her collegiate debut, redshirt freshman Ashley Jurgens earned a pair of assists coming off four sets, including an assist on match point in the third set.

The Jennies improve to 11-3 overall, and stay perfect in conference play with a 5-0 record. The Jens continue on their road trip tomorrow at 6:00 p.m., when they visit MIAA newcomers Central Oklahoma.
