(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – University of Central Missouri Jennies softball (9-9) dropped both games of an MIAA doubleheader against Emporia State (10-6) Friday afternoon and evening at the South Recreation Contest in Warrensburg. Central Missouri fell in the first game 5-2 before dropping the nightcap 7-6.
Game 1: Emporia State 5, Central Missouri 2
The Jennies fell in the first game 5-2 against the Hornets. Emporia State used an 11-4 hitting advantage to take the victory.
The Jennies fell behind 1-0 in the top of the second when Emporia State's Tricia Vogel hit a homerun to left centerfield.
Central Missouri responded in the bottom of the fourth inning though when
Jakki Prater (Nixa, Mo.) and
Katie Groves (Bluffdale, Utah) scored on a throwing error by Emporia State, putting the Jennies on-top 2-1.
Emporia answered in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs to retake the lead, 4-2. Emporia added another run in the top of the sixth inning to seal the 5-2 victory.
Game 2: Emporia State 7. Central Missouri 6
The Jennies saw a 4-3 lead slip-away in the top of the fifth inning and fell in game two to Emporia State 7-6. Central Missouri outhit the Hornets 9-8 but committed five errors in the contest.
The Jennies got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when
Jakki Prater (Nixa, Mo.) hit her first triple of her collegiate career, scoring
Katie Groves (Bluffdale, Utah) and
Alex Groeger (Fort Collins, Colo.) and giving the Jennies the early 2-0 lead.
Emporia State responded in the top of the fourth inning, scoring three runs to take the 3-2 lead.
The Jennies answered right back though in the bottom of the fourth when
Medora West (St. Louis, Mo.) singled, scoring
Brittany Martin (Warrensburg, Mo.).
Jordan Marble (Jefferson City, Mo.) then hit a sacrifice fly-ball to right field, scoring
Ashlea Bengtson (Wichita, Kan.), allowing Central Missouri to retake the 4-3 lead. Groves added a double, scoring West and Groeger, increasing the Central Missouri lead to 6-3 heading into the fifth inning.
Emporia State didn't panic and proceeded to score four runs in the top of the fifth inning, taking the lead back from Central Missouri and eventually getting the 7-6 win.
The Jennies are right back in action Saturday afternoon at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg, battling 13
th ranked Missouri Western in an MIAA doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
