Mules sweep doubleheader from Northwest Missouri 8-1 and 3-1
Box Score (MARYVILLE, Mo.) – The second-ranked Central Missouri Mules ran their winning streak to 11 in a row with a doubleheader sweep of Northwest Missouri State on Saturday afternoon at Bearcat Field. UCM took the opener 8-1 before completing the sweep with a 3-1 win in the nightcap.
      The Mules (15-1, 10-1 MIAA) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one with a pair of unearned runs in the first. Central Missouri broke the game open with six runs in the third to make it 8-0. Jordan Coons belted a two-run home run, his first of the season, to start the scoring. Albert Selanders and Ben Cox had RBI singles and Gabe Thibodeau also drove in a run.
      The Bearcats (5-14, 4-7 MIAA) got on the board with a single run in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough. Lee Stoppelman (2-0) earned the win tossing five solid innings allowing just two hits while striking out five.
      The Mules jumped in front early in game two as well plating a single run in the first when Bret Schwartz scored on a wild pitch. Schwartz brought home Chase Graskewicz in the third with a squeeze bunt to make it 2-0. NWMSU tallied a single run in the fourth to make it 2-1, but UCM would add a run in the top of the seventh on a John Oropeza RBI fielder's choice.
      Dane Krone (2-0) earned the win in relief for UCM, while Coons came on in the seventh to record the final out for his second save of the year. Starter Kyle Jackson allowed one run on four hits in 3.1 innings pitched.
      The teams will wrap up the series with a single nine-inning game tomorrow at 12 p.m.
