(HAYS, Kan.) – University of Central Missouri Jennies softball (11-13, 0-6 MIAA) MIAA conference struggles continued Friday afternoon, dropping two games to the Fort Hays State University Tigers at Tiger Stadium in Hays, Kansas. The Jens fell in the first game 6-1 before dropping the second 8-2.
Game 1: Fort Hays State 6, Central Missouri 1
The Jennies could only muster one run in the first game of the day and fell to the Tigers, 6-1, falling to 11-12 overall and 0-5 in MIAA Conference play. Central Missouri was outhit 9-4 by Fort Hays State and committed three errors in the contest.
The Tigers controlled the game from the start, scoring four-runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the early 4-0 lead. The Jennies responded in the top of the third inning with a run of their own on a single by
Braylyn Bivens (Kansas City, Mo.), scoring
Alex Groeger (Fort Collins, Colo.), making the score 4-1 heading into the bottom-half of the third.
Fort Hays answered though in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, scoring a run in each inning, sealing the 6-1 win over the Jennies.
Game 2: Fort Hays State 8, Central Missouri 2
Central Missouri plated seven hits but could only gain two runs the entire game and fell to Fort Hays State in the final game of an MIAA doubleheader Friday afternoon in Hays, Kansas, 8-2. The Jennies dropped to 11-13 overall and 0-6 in conference play with the evening setback.
The Jennies two runs came in the top of the fifth inning when
Nicole Norberg (St. Louis, Mo.) singled up the middle of the field, scoring
Katie Groves (Bluffdale, Utah) and
Braylyn Bivens (Kansas City, Mo.).
The rest of the contest was all Tigers as they plated runs in the first (1), second (1), fourth (3) and sixth (3) innings to pick up the 8-2 win over the Jennies.
Central Missouri was outhit by Fort Hays State 11-7 in the contest. The Tigers committed two errors while the Jennies had one miscue.
The Jennies will look to bounce back Saturday afternoon when they travel to Topeka, Kansas to battle the Washburn Lady Blues in a 1 p.m. MIAA doubleheader.
