Box Score (ARKADELPHIA, Ark.) – The third-ranked Central Missouri Mules moved to 3-0 in the early season with a 15-4 win over Henderson State in the second of a three-game series at Clyde Berry Field on Saturday afternoon. UCM plated four first inning runs on their way to the 11-run victory.
Central Missouri (3-0) jumped out to quick 4-0 lead in the first inning.
Gabe Thibodeau led off with a double and later scored on an infield single by
Jordan Coons. The second run scored when
Bret Schwartz advanced to third on a wild pitch and then stole home to put the Mules up 2-0.
Albert Selanders finished off the inning with a two-run double to give UCM a 4-0 cushion.
The Mules tallied another four spot in the top of the fourth.
John Oropeza had an RBI single to put UCM up 5-0 and Coons added a two-run single to make it 7-0 and Oropeza stole third and scored on a throwing error to make it 8-0.
The Reddies (6-3) plated a single run in the bottom of the fourth, but UCM came back with another run in the fifth to make it 9-1 when Coons singled home Thibodeau.
Henderson State plated a pair of runs in the fifth chasing Mules' starter
Kurtis Schuyler after 4.2 innings where he gave up three runs on four hits with four K's.
UCM plated a single run in the eighth on a
Brad Wilson RBI double and five more in the top of the ninth. Oropeza singled home a run to start the scoring and later scored on a throwing error. Wilson added another RBI double, while Selanders scored on wild pitch and
Jon Cotter added an RBI single.
The Reddies plated one run in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn't near enough as the Mules improved to 3-0 for the second time in the past three years.
Kyle Jackson (1-0) earned the win in relief for UCM after allowing just two hits in 3.1 innings of work. He walked two and struck out three in earning his first win of the season.
Central Missouri will finish up the season-opening road trip on Sunday at 12 p.m. when they take on the Reddies in the final game of the three-game set.
