(Warrensburg, Mo.) – The Central Missouri Jennies softball team ended its regular season by winning its fourth consecutive game, this time by a 3-0 shutout over the visiting Washburn Lady Blues on Tuesday evening. The win gives the Jennies a split in the season series, as Washburn won 6-4 on April 23.
This is the 10th time that UCM has not allowed its opponent to score this season, recording a 10-8 record in shutouts.
The Jennies outhit Washburn 7-5 in the game as senior
Kasey Martin lead the attack with two hits. She collected one RBI and junior
Nicole Norberg recorded a pair.
In the first inning with two runners on and one out, Norberg hit into a fielder's choice that allowed the runner to score and gave the Jens a 1-0 lead. In the third frame with one out and a runner on second, Norberg doubled up the middle for UCM's second run of the game.
Martin stepped into the box in the fifth inning with two outs and a runner on third and singled up the middle for the security run.
The Lady Blues' best shot of a run came in the seventh inning, off the bat of Lindsey Moore. She ripped a pitch to deep center field only to have sophomore
Ashlea Bengtson leap over the fence and bring the ball back into the field for an out.
Junior
Lacey Dixon pitched the complete game shutout, scattering five hit and striking out three batters. She only allowed one runner past first base, stranding her on third in the seventh inning.
The Jennies will return to action on Thursday when they participate in the MIAA Tournament as the six seed. Their first opponent is Nebraska-Omaha at 6 p.m. from Blue Valley Recreational Complex in Overland Park, Kan.
