(Omaha, Neb.) – Central Missouri recorded 22 hits to the Mavericks 19 in the doubleheader at No. 13 Nebraska Omaha, but the Jennies still dropped a pair at Claussen-Westgate Field in Omaha, Neb. on Friday afternoon. The Jennies fell 7-6 in nine innings in the first contest and 6-5 in the second.
The Jennies had three homers, one each by freshman
Braylyn Bivens, junior
Jaydee Young, and senior
Kasey Martin. Bivens went 6-of-7 at the plate, driving in three, scoring twice and walking once. Martin was 4-of-6 with two RBI and one run scored.
Central Missouri will return to the diamond on Saturday (tomorrow) when the Jennies face Northwest Missouri in Maryville, Mo. First pitch is slated for noon from Bearcat Softball Field.
Game 1: Jennies 6, No. 13 Nebraska Omaha 7 (9 inn)
The Jennies scored first, in their first at-bat, before falling behind 3-2 after the first stanza. Central Missouri tied it up in the third and took its first lead of 4-3 in the fifth. The Mavericks tied it back up in the bottom half and gave up a pair in the sixth. UNO forced extras with two in the bottom of the seventh.
After a leadoff single in the ninth frame, UNO tallied the winning run with a single to right field two batters later. The Mavericks forced extras by hitting a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh. They also hit a solo shot in the fifth and a three-run double in the first.
Central Missouri tallied a pair in the first on three consecutive singles, RBI by both Martin and junior
Nicole Norberg. Then in the third with two outs, UCM recorded three more hits with a RBI single off the bat of junior
Brittany Martin.
The Jennies tacked on one more in the fifth, after another RBI single by
Brittany Martin. In the seventh, UCM collected three hits, an RBI each by sophomore
Ashlea Bengtson and junior
Katie Groves.
Bivens went 4-of-4 in the game, first time this season that a Jenny has collected four hits in a game. She scored once, drove in one and walked once.
Kasey Martin went 3-of-3 with an RBI.
Sophomore
Sarah Espy went 7.0 innings in the circle, allowing six runs on nine hits. She struck out five batters and walked five. Senior
Jamin Landreth finished the game, going the final 1.1 innings and suffering the loss. She gave up one run on two hits.
Game 2: Jennies 5, No. 13 Nebraska Omaha 6
Central Missouri saw themselves in a big hole after the first frame, down 4-0, but would fight back with three in the third and one more in the fourth to tie it up. UNO added a pair in the fifth that proved to be the game winners.
All five runs by the Jennies in the contest came via the home run.
Kasey Martin and junior
Jaydee Young both hit solo shots, while Bivens knocked out a three-run bomb. Young has a team high-tying three homers, Martin two and Bivens hit her first.
Bivens recorded a team-high two hits in the game with three RBI and one run scored.
Sophomore
Megan Schallom went the first 4.1 innings of the game, suffering the loss. She gave up all six runs on six hits, walking six and striking out three. Junior
Lacey Dixon went the final 1.2 innings giving up two hits and striking out two.
