Jennies Softball Splits Doubleheader at Rockhurst Tuesday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (22-12, 5-5 MIAA) split a pair of games with the Rockhurst Hawks (18-15, 5-7 GLVC) dropping game one by a final score of 5-4 (8 inn.), before winning 7-4, on Tuesday, March 31, from Loyola Park Softball Field in Kansas City, Mo.

The Jens continue MIAA play on Friday, April 3, as they host the Northeastern State RiverHawks (20-13, 7-5 MIAA) for a pair of games during Meet the Jens Day, with first pitch of game one slated for 2:00 p.m. from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.

Game 1: Rockhurst 5, Central Missouri 4 (8 inn.)
After taking a one-run lead in the bottom of the first, Rockhurst doubled their advantage with a run in the third.

In the top of the seventh, the Jens tied the ballgame with a bases-loaded 2-RBI single from Jadyn Sheffield that scored Lexi Blackmon and Cydney Fullerton.

The Hawks threatened in the home half of the seventh, but extra-innings were needed. With Kyrsten Moran on third and one out in the eighth, Taylor Thompson gave Central Missouri the lead with her team-leading 10th homer of the season.

Rockhurst answered with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the inning as Bailey Brumley (5-3) suffered the loss in the circle, while five Jens recorded a hit in the ballgame.

Game 2: Central Missouri 7, Rockhurst 4
The Jens opened the scoring in the first with a two-run shot off the bat of Brumley, but Rockhurst trimmed the lead with a run in the second.

With runners on second and third and nobody out in the top of the fourth, Sheffield gave UCM a 3-1 lead scoring off a wild pitch, before Thompson's RBI single made it a three-run advantage.

The Jens added a run in the top of the fifth thanks to an RBI ground out from Sheffield that plated Blackmon, before Rockhurst answered with a pair of runs in the ensuing half inning, making it 5-3 UCM.

Thompson made it a three-run ballgame with a solo shot in the top of the sixth inning, before Blackmon scored off a pair of throwing errors by the Hawks' catcher in the seventh.

Rockhurst answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, but were unable to complete the comeback as Riley Bebb (4-3) earned the victory in the circle and Madelyn Ducheneaux picked up her fourth save of the season.

Moran, Thompson, and Blackmon had three-hit ballgames each, pacing Central Missouri offensively in the winning effort.
