Jennies Splits With Fort Hays

(Warrensburg, Mo.) – The Central Missouri Jennies outhit the Tigers 10-7 but still split in the home doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Jennies Field. Fort Hays State took the first game 2-0 as UCM shutout FHSU 2-0 in the second.
      Between the two teams 29 runners were left on base, 14 of which were Jennies. Half of the hits that UCM had in the doubleheader were doubles. Fort Hays State committed two errors in the series.
      Junior Katie Groves led the Jennies with three hits, one a double, and the game winning RBI in the second game. She also had a stolen base. Junior Nicole Norberg tallied two hits, including a double.
      Central Missouri will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Washburn at Jennies Field. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. as UCM will honor its seniors between games.
 
Game 1: Jennies 0, Fort Hays State 2
      Both team were held scoreless until the seventh inning when the Tigers tallied the only runs of the contest. The Jennies left 10 runners on base to Fort Hays' seven and they also outhit the Tigers 7-5. The Jennies had five runners to third base, but could never score them.
      In the seventh inning, Fort Hays had two runners on with one out and scored its first run with a fielder's choice by the nine hitter. Later with the bases loaded, Erin Dyok hit a sacrifice fly to score the security run for the Tigers.
      Groves led UCM with two hits in the contest, with five other Jennies collecting one hit each.
      Sophomore Megan Schallom suffered the loss in the circle, giving up both runs on five hits. She walked three batters and struck out three.
 
Game 2: Jennies 2, Fort Hays State 0
      Central Missouri had a no-hitter going until the fifth inning when the Tigers recorded their first hit, a single. The Jennies scored in the third inning and then added a security run in the fifth for the victory.
      The Jennies outhit FHSU 3-2 and the Tigers left eight runners on base to UCM's four.
      Freshman Brittany Rozier led off the third with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. She later scored on a passed ball by the Tigers. Then in the fifth frame with a runner on second, Groves doubled down the left field line for the security run.
      Groves tallied two hits in the game, collecting the lone RBI.
      Sophomore Sarah Espy recorded her eighth win, scattering two hits. She walked six batters and struck out four.
