INDIANAPOLIS — University of Central Missouri Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business Operations Crystal Westphal participated in the prestigious NCAA Pathways Program meetings from June 21-25 at the NCAA National Headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The program, which started in 1997, is a yearlong initiative designed to prepare senior-level athletics administrators for their next career step as directors of athletics or conference commissioners.
During the yearlong program, participants will examine how values shape leadership philosophy and execution within college athletics and higher education. The curriculum builds practical knowledge in budgeting, strategic planning and fundraising to support both current responsibilities and future roles. The experience includes structured mentorship with senior leaders such as athletics directors, conference commissioners and school presidents, providing personalized guidance and industry insight. Grounded in experiential learning, the program challenges participants to address current and emerging issues across the collegiate athletics landscape. This approach ensures they are not only prepared for the demands of executive leadership but also positioned to cultivate cultures of excellence within their organizations.
Westphal has been a member of the University of Central Missouri Athletics Department since 2012 and oversees financial services, athletics equipment, and human resources. In addition, she is the sport administrator for Jennies Soccer, UCM Cheerleading, and the UCM Mulekickers Dance Team.
Westphal is the lone MIAA member institution administrator and one of just 21 administrators across all three NCAA Divisions to be selected to the NCAA Pathways Program.
After meeting June 21-25 in Indianapolis, Westphal and her fellow Division II/III cohort members will reconvene October 18-23 for additional meetings.
