HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State's Derek Woolwine hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, leading the Tigers to a 14-13 victory over the No. 16-ranked Central Missouri Mules in the series finale of a three-game MIAA series on Sunday, April 12, at Larks Park.
The Mules (28-9, 18-7 MIAA) are scheduled to host the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats (27-12, 17-8 MIAA) on Tuesday, April 14, at 5 p.m. at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field in Warrensburg.
Collin Dobson homered twice – the first home runs of his collegiate career – and had three RBI and three runs scored, while
Trey Jozwiakowski also hit the first homer of his collegiate tenure.
Michael Smosna belted his second home run of the season and scored three runs,
Cole Funkhouser added three hits and drove in two runs, and
Chase Wilcox tallied three runs batted in on two hits, rounding out the UCM offensive leaders in the game.
Central Missouri relief pitcher
Tommy Gross (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound after giving up three earned runs on three hits and not recording an out in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Garretson Cook went a perfect 6-of-6, and Bowie and Tytin Goebel each had four RBI, leading Fort Hays State (12-26, 9-19 MIAA) at the plate.
For the game, the Tigers outhit the Mules, 21-16.
