WARRENSBURG, Mo. – No. 16-ranked University of Central Missouri Mules Baseball secured a season series win over No. 30-ranked Northwest Missouri State with an 8-3 victory over the Bearcats on Tuesday afternoon, April 14, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
The Mules (29-9, 19-7 MIAA) won two of three games against the Bearcats (27-13, 17-9 MIAA) during the season, clinching a 2-1 MIAA series triumph for 2026.
UCM scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning on a Northwest error, a
Michael Smosna RBI fielder's choice, an infield RBI bunt single from
Kaiden Ashton, and a bases-loaded walk from
Collin Dobson, gaining an early 4-0 advantage.
Northwest Missouri plated a run in the top of the second, trimming the lead to 4-1, but the Mules answered with a run each in the bottom of the third, fifth, sixth, and eighth innings, and limited the Bearcats to just two runs in the top of the ninth, sealing the 8-3 triumph.
Ashton went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, Dobson was 2-for-3 with three RBI, Ryker Edward was 2-for-3 with a run and two walks, and
Chase Wilcox compiled a triple, leading UCM at the plate.
Central Missouri relief pitcher
Liam Bryan (3-0) earned the victory on the mound after allowing zero earned runs on just one hit with one strikeout and zero walks in 1 2/3 innings. Starting pitcher
Treyton DesLauriers threw 4 2/3 innings, giving up just one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
For the game, UCM outhit Northwest Missouri, 9-6.
The Mules are scheduled to travel to Emporia, Kan., for a three-game MIAA series at Emporia State April 17-19.
