HAYS, Kan. – Cole Kreisel beat Fort Hays State catcher Justin Lipka's tag at home plate in the top of the 10th inning to score what proved to be the game-winning run as the No. 16-ranked University of Central Missouri Mules Baseball team defeated the Fort Hays State Tigers, 4-3, in game two of a three-game MIAA series on Saturday, April 11, at Larks Park.
The Mules (28-8, 18-6 MIAA) secure a series win over the Tigers (11-26, 8-19 MIAA) with the extra-inning triumph and will wrap up the series with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday, April 12, in Hays, Kan.
Both teams played to a 3-3 tie after nine innings, sending the game into extra innings.
In the top of the 10th, Kreisel hit a one-out single to left field before advancing to third base on a Fort Hays State error. Kobel placed a bunt down that was fielded by FHSU pitcher Brandon Chavez, who threw the ball to Lipka at the plate. Kreisel was able to maneuver around the tag, securing the go-ahead run.
Kreisel was one of eight different Mules to record a hit in the game, with
Cole Funkhouser and
Will Godfrey tallying doubles, leading UCM offensively.
Central Missouri reliever
Chris Massey (2-0) earned the victory on the mound after allowing no earned runs on just one hit with two strikeouts and zero walks in three innings.
For the game, the Mules outhit the Tigers, 8-5.
