SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The second-ranked University of Central Missouri Mules Baseball team fell to the Drury Panthers, 9-7, in a midweek game played on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Mark Worley Field at Meador Park.
The Mules (6-2) are scheduled to face Southwest Baptist (2-2) in a doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 13, at 2 p.m. in Bolivar, Mo.
Central Missouri was unable to overcome an early 4-0 deficit after the Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Collin Dobson went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, and
Kaiden Ashton was 3-for-5 with two runs batted in, while
Grant Hollister and
Ryker Edwards each compiled doubles, pacing UCM offensively in the contest.
Central Missouri starting pitcher
Treyton DesLauriers (0-1) was the tough luck losing pitcher, giving up four unearned runs on three hits in the first inning.
Xander Schmitt went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run and five RBI, while Jackson Crider was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, leading Drury (4-0) at the plate.
Panther relief pitcher Alex Logan (1-0) earned the win after surrendering no earned runs on three hits with one walk in 1 2/3 innings, and Sam Peterson picked up the save, recording the final two outs in the top of the ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts.
