TIP-OFF
- Central Missouri Jennies basketball (16-12, 8-9 MIAA) is slated to wrap up regular season action with a pair of MIAA road games at Missouri Southern (17-12, 9-8 MIAA) and No. 10 Pittsburg State (24-3, 16-1 MIAA) Thursday, Feb. 27, and Saturday, March 1. UCM is scheduled to face the Missouri Southern Lions at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Joplin, Mo., before taking on the 10th-ranked Pittsburg State Gorillas at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Pittsburg, Kan.
- UCM is coming off a 2-0 week, defeating Rogers State and Central Oklahoma in its final two home games of the season Feb. 20 and 22.
- Through 28 games, Central Missouri is led by Reese Schaaf (17.9 ppg., 9.9 rpg., .512 FG%, .833 FT%, 36 A, 24 Stl, 10 Blk), Taylor Weishaar (12.9 ppg., 7.6 rpg., .461 FG%, .724 FT%, 60 blk) and Lauren Frost (10.9 ppg., 4.8 rpg., 144 A, .378 FG%, .307 3FG%, .712 FT%, 44 Stl).
- As a team, UCM is averaging 67.6 points per game while holding opponents to 62.7 points per game. The Jennies are outrebounding their adversaries, 37.8 to 34.9 rebounds per game, and shooting 42.9 percent from the field, 31.8 percent from three-point range and 74.3 percent at the free-throw line.
- Schaaf currently leads the MIAA in both scoring and rebounding through 28 contests with her 17.9 points and 9.9 boards per game. She ranks sixth in double-doubles (15), 12th in total field goals (193) and rebounds (277) and 16th in points (502) and) in the most recent NCAA-II National Statistics.
- Weishaar leads the MIAA in blocks with 60 and is 12th nationally while Frost is third in the conference and 11th in Division II with her 144 assists this season.
BLOCK PARTY
- Taylor Weishaar currently ranks fourth in UCM single-season history with her 60 blocks this season. She is two blocks shy of tying former UCM women's basketball standout Kamala Sherman for third in single-season blocks. Sherman tallied 62 during the 1992-93 season.
LAST TIME OUT: JENNIES USE STRONG SECOND HALF TO ROLL PAST BRONCHOS ON SENIOR DAY, 80-58
- Central Missouri Jennies basketball outscored the Central Oklahoma Bronchos in the third and fourth quarters, 47-25, to post an 80-58 victory on Senior Day and UCM Athletic Hall of Fame Day Saturday afternoon, Feb. 22, inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center.
- Freshman Taylor Weishaar scored 20 points on 6-of-16 shooting and a 5-of-6 performance at the free-throw line and added nine rebounds while Reese Schaaf notched her team and MIAA-high 15th double-double of the season with 15 points and a team-best 11 rebounds, and Allie Clevenger, Lauren Frost and Cierra Smith each tallied 13 points, leading Central Missouri in the win.
- UCM shot 42 percent from the field (27-of-65), 44 percent from three-point range (8-of-18) and were 82 percent from the free-throw line (18-of-22) for the game.
- The Jennies narrowly outrebounded the Bronchos (7-19, 6-11 MIAA), 43-42, and outscored Central Oklahoma in the paint, 32-22, and off turnovers, 9-3.
- Prior to the game, the Jennies honored their 2025 seniors: Clevenger, Frost, Nicole Davis, Shannon Karlin, Callie Ziebell and manager Tiyah Gibson.
TAKING CARE OF THE BASKETBALL
- Through 28 games, the Jennies rank among the top teams in NCAA Division II when it comes to limiting turnovers. UCM is averaging just 12.7 turnovers per game, which is second in the MIAA lead and ranks seventh nationally.
JENNIES INK FIVE HIGH SCHOOL STANDOUTS
- University of Central Missouri women's basketball head coach Dave Slifer announced the signing of five high school standouts during the early signing period Tuesday, Nov. 26.
- Hayden Heim, a 6-3 forward from Plaxico, Kan., Makenzie Farmer, a 5-11 guard from De Soto, Kan., Jayla Griffith, a 5-8 guard from Columbia, Mo., Olivia Robben, a 6-5 center from Olathe, Kan., and Neely Schaaf, a 5-8 guard from El Dorado Springs, Mo., will all continue their education and play basketball for the Jennies beginning in the fall of 2025.
SLIFER INKS FOUR-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION
- Jennies head coach Dave Slifer, now in his 21st season as the leader of the program, signed a four-year contract extension through the 2027-28 season in the summer of 2024.
- The contract is highly competitive in the MIAA and NCAA Division II and provides incentives for MIAA championships, postseason appearances and achievements, coach of the year awards, and academic achievement.
- Slifer has led Jennies basketball to 12 NCAA Division II postseason berths, including an NCAA-II National Championship in 2018 with the Jennies best record in program history, as well as four MIAA Championships and a pair of NCAA-II Central Region Titles.
- Among active head coaches, Slifer is the second winningest coach in Division II and ranks in the top 10 among all three divisions with his 805 career victories in 35 years as a head coach.
- He is the winningest coach in both Central Missouri and MIAA women's basketball history and enters 2024-25 with 421 wins in 20 seasons as head coach of the Jennies.
UP NEXT
- UCM will compete in the 2025 MIAA Women's Basketball Championship March 5-9 at historic Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City, Mo. Central Missouri's game date, time, seed and opponent will be announced Saturday evening, March 1, by the conference office.
- The top 10 teams in the final MIAA KPI rankings released Saturday evening will advance to the conference tournament. UCM enters Thursday's game at Missouri Southern ranked No. 7.
