KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- University of Central Missouri Jennies Soccer's Mackenzie Smith was voted the MIAA Defensive Athelte of the Week for her performance on the soccer pitch during the week of Oct. 13-19, it was announced Tuesday, Oct. 14. 

Smith, a sophomore defender from Kansas City, Mo., helped the Jennies go 2-0-0 last week in a pair of MIAA home matches. UCM defeated No. 24-ranked Northwest Missouri State Friday, Oct. 10, 2-1, before shutting out Missouri Western Sunday, Oct. 12, 1-0. Smith netted her first goal of the season in the 10th minute of Central Missouri's victory over the Bearcats Friday off an assist from Kate Ricker, putting the Jennies ahead early, 1-0. 

On the week, Smith played 177 minutes and tallied two points with her goal Friday. 

The No. 9-ranked Jennies are scheduled to travel to Edmond, Okla., for a MIAA match at Central Oklahoma Friday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m.
