WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Mackenzie Smith and
Mikayla Ernst each scored goals as the No. 9-ranked University of Central Missouri Jennies Soccer team posted a 2-1 victory over the No. 24-ranked Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats in a MIAA match at the South Recreation Complex on Friday, Oct. 10.
The Jennies (6-2-3, 3-0-2 MIAA) are scheduled to host Missouri Western State University (5-0-3, 1-0-2 MIAA) Sunday afternoon, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m. in Warrensburg.
Central Missouri scored both of its goals in the first half.
Smith headed a pass from
Kate Ricker off a
Coryn Jespersen corner kick into the back of the net in the 10th minute for her first goal of the season, putting UCM in front early, 1-0.
Ernst doubled the Jennies' lead to 2-0 in the 32nd minute after she corralled a feed from
Alexandra Hofbauer and hammered it home for her team and MIAA-best 11th goal of 2025.
The Bearcats scored a late goal in the 84th minute, but Central Missouri maintained its lead for the remaining six minutes of the contest, sealing the win.
For the match, UCM outshot Northwest Missouri State (6-3-0, 3-1-0 MIAA), 12-8, including a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Jennies also bested the Bearcats in corner kicks, 10-3.
Central Missouri goalkeeper
Kristen Wright (6-2-3) earned the victory after giving up one goal while making four saves in 90 minutes of action.
NWMSU goalkeeper Lily Ellis suffered the setback between the posts, surrendering two goals and making five saves in 90 minutes.
