  • University of Central Missouri Jennies basketball (12-9, 4-6 MIAA) is scheduled to return home to the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center for a pair of MIAA contests Thursday, Jan. 30, at 5:30 p.m. vs. Nebraska Kearney (15-3, 8-1 MIAA) and Saturday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m. vs. No. 8 Fort Hays State (16-2, 7-2 MIAA).
  • UCM is coming off a 75-57 loss at Northwest Missouri State Saturday, Jan. 25, in Maryville, Mo.
  • Through 21 games, Central Missouri is led by Reese Schaaf (18.9 ppg., 9.8 rpg., .537 FG%, .840 FT%, 30 A, 20 Stl, 8 Blk), Taylor Weishaar (12.1 ppg., 7.7 rpg., .459 FG%, .677 FT%, 44 blk) and Lauren Frost (11.8 ppg., 4.9 rpg., 113 A, .406 FG%, .354 3FG%, .714 FT%, 32 Stl).
  • As a team, UCM is averaging 68.1 points per game while holding opponents to 62.5 points per game. The Jennies are outrebounding their adversaries, 37.7 to 34 rebounds per game, and shooting 43.6 percent from the field, 31.7 percent from three-point range and 74.4 percent at the free-throw line.
  • Schaaf currently leads the MIAA in both scoring and rebounding through 21 contests with her 18.9 points and 9.8 boards per game. She ranks sixth in total field goals (154), eighth in double-doubles (10) and points (397) and ninth in rebounds (205) in the most recent NCAA-II National Statistics.
  • Weishaar leads the MIAA in blocks with 44 and is eighth nationally while Frost is second in the conference and sixth in Division II with her 113 assists this season.
LAST TIME OUT: JENNIES DROP CONTEST AT NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE SATURDAY
  • Central Missouri Jennies basketball fell to the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats, 75-57, inside Bearcat Arena Saturday afternoon, Jan. 25.
  • Reese Schaaf tallied 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the field and a 6-of-6 performance at the free-throw line and had five rebounds while Taylor Weishaar chipped in 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor and a 3-of-4 showing at the foul line, leading Central Missouri.
  • Northwest Missouri State outscored UCM in the second-half, 38-21, to turn a one-point halftime lead into a 17-point victory.
  • For the game, the Jennies shot 43 percent (23-of-53) from the field and 90 percent at the free-throw line (9-of-10). The Bearcats outrebounded Central Missouri, 28-24, and outscored UCM in the paint, 42-36, and off turnovers, 12-5.
  • Molly Hartnett tallied a game-high 22 points on 11-for-18 shooting from the field and a 4-of-4 mark at the free-throw line, pacing the Bearcats.
WEEKLY HONORS
  • University of Central Missouri Jennies basketball's Reese Schaaf has been voted the MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week for her performance on the basketball court Jan. 20-26, it was announced Monday, Jan. 27, by the league office.
  • Schaaf led the league in points and rebounds in Week 12 while averaging a double-double with 26 points and 12.5 rebounds per game in UCM's two games.
  • Schaaf opened the week with a career-high 32 points and snagged a career-best 20 rebounds in Central Missouri's 68-62 overtime win at Missouri Western. The junior guard/forward shot 70.6 percent from the field (12-of-17) and 70 percent at the free-throw line (7-of-10) in St. Joseph while her 20 rebounds were also the most individual single-game rebounds by a UCM women's basketball student-athlete since 2017. The double-double performance against the Griffons was her 10th of the season – the most of any MIAA player this season.
  • Schaaf also added 20 points and five rebounds in Central Missouri's loss to Northwest Missouri in Maryville over the weekend. On the week, Schaaf shot 56 percent (19-of-34) from the floor and 81 percent (13-of-16) at the line to lead all MIAA scorers with 52 points.
  • She also collected a MIAA-leading 25 rebounds while adding four assists, three blocks and a steal.
TAKING CARE OF THE BASKETBALL
  • Through 21 games, the Jennies rank among the top teams in NCAA Division II when it comes to limiting turnovers. UCM is averaging just 12.4 turnovers per game, which is tied for the MIAA lead and ranks fifth nationally.
JENNIES INK FIVE HIGH SCHOOL STANDOUTS
  • University of Central Missouri women's basketball head coach Dave Slifer announced the signing of five high school standouts during the early signing period Tuesday, Nov. 26.
  • Hayden Heim, a 6-3 forward from Plaxico, Kan., Makenzie Farmer, a 5-11 guard from De Soto, Kan., Jayla Griffith, a 5-8 guard from Columbia, Mo., Olivia Robben, a 6-5 center from Olathe, Kan., and Neely Schaaf, a 5-8 guard from El Dorado Springs, Mo., will all continue their education and play basketball for the Jennies beginning in the fall of 2025.
SLIFER INKS FOUR-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION
  • Jennies head coach Dave Slifer, now in his 21st season as the leader of the program, signed a four-year contract extension through the 2027-28 season in the summer of 2024.
  • The contract is highly competitive in the MIAA and NCAA Division II and provides incentives for MIAA championships, postseason appearances and achievements, coach of the year awards, and academic achievement.
  • Slifer has led Jennies basketball to 12 NCAA Division II postseason berths, including an NCAA-II National Championship in 2018 with the Jennies best record in program history, as well as four MIAA Championships and a pair of NCAA-II Central Region Titles.
  • Among active head coaches, Slifer is the second winningest coach in Division II and ranks in the top 10 among all three divisions with his 805 career victories in 35 years as a head coach.
  • He is the winningest coach in both Central Missouri and MIAA women's basketball history and enters 2024-25 with 421 wins in 20 seasons as head coach of the Jennies.
