KANSAS CITY, Mo. – No. 23 Central Missouri Jennies (3-5, 0-0 MIAA) fell to the Rockhurst Hawks (6-2, 0-0 GLVC) by a final score of 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 19-25, 20-25) on Tuesday, Sept. 17, from Mason-Halpin Field House in Kansas City, Mo.
After winning the opening set the Hawks had a six-point advantage in the second, but Central Missouri tied the set at 12 on a 9-3 run with a kill from Gilian Bachali (three kills overall) from
Kayla Baer (match-high 40 assists and nine digs overall) before tying the match at one.
Rockhurst answered taking sets three and four as they picked up their sixth win of the year. Sophomore
Elinor Engel led the Jens offensively with a career-high 18 kills on 36 swings (.361 hitting percentage) adding five blocks for good measure.
Middle blocker
Rachel Ziesman finished the night with 15 kills on 37 attempts (.324 attack percentage) and four blocks, while freshman
Brenna Kelly (two service aces) and defensive specialist
Emma Wheeler collected nine digs each.
Central Missouri was led defensively in the back row by redshirt junior
Grace Winkelmann who had 11 digs and a match-high three service aces, plus, middle blocker / right side
Grace Wagers had a match-best nine blocks and six kills. Senior
Tiffany Little and defensive specialist
Arley Anderson ended the match with six digs each.
The Jens return to the court on Friday, Sept. 20, for their home opener against the Drury Panthers (6-2, 0-0 GLVC) beginning at 6:00 p.m. inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center for the opening match of the UCM Challenge.
