AUSTIN, Texas – Three members of the 2024 MIAA Regular Season and NCAA Division II Central Region Champion Central Missouri Mules baseball team earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America® honors, it was announced Tuesday, July 2.
Outfielders
Brennen van Breusegen and
Carter Young both earned First Team Academic All-America® accolades while designated hitter
Vance Tobol was a second team selection.
This is van Breusegen's second First Team Academic All-America® selection, as he was also a first team honoree in 2022, while Young and Tobol are both first-time Academic All-Americans®.
A redshirt senior from Columbia, Ill., van Breusegen completed his bachelor's degree in digital media production with a 3.78 GPA and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree and carries a 3.64 GPA. The 2024 MIAA Player of the Year and a consensus All-American, van Breusegen hit a team-high .384 with 83 hits, 71 runs, 14 doubles, six triples, a team-best 21 homers, 69 RBIs, a .796 slugging percentage, 37 walks and 21 stolen bases in 61 games in 2024.
Young, a redshirt senior who hails from Lee's Summit, Mo., is a cybersecurity major with a 3.90 GPA. In 61 contests in 2024, Young, a consensus All-American selection, hit .372 with a team-high 88 runs, 93 hits and 24 doubles, going along with five triples, 16 home runs, 65 RBIs, a .700 slugging percentage, a team-best 52 walks, and 30 stolen bases.
A redshirt junior from Rogers, Ark., Tobol is a sport management major with a 3.57 GPA. A First Team All-MIAA honoree, he hit .342 with 53 runs, 68 hits, 15 doubles, six triples, 11 homers, 59 RBIs, a .643 slugging percentage, 22 walks and 22 stolen bases in 53 contests in 2024.
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Division II Academic All-America® program.
